Posts: 208 | What is the advantage of a dual axle trailer vs. single axle trailer? I've been told that the dual axle is harder to move around when positioning boat in your garage. I'm considering the purchase of a new tuffy 1760 or 1890 and notice most of the 1890's sit on a dual axle trailer. The 1890 is only 200 lbs heavier than the 1760. Thanks everyone! | ||

Posts: 556 | There are advantages to the single axle--like mobility--especially by hand----but depending on the size boat/engine combo you might choose---sometimes you need the dual axle. I have a 19ft aluminum with a 150 4 stroke and the single axle works fine for my combo. | ||

Posts: 32935 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The 1890 also carries a big block V6, and a 50 gallon gas tank VS a 36 gallon tank. Tuffy will not sell an 1890 C model without a dual axle trailer with brakes. If you choose to put your own single axle trailer under that ride and max out the HP, you will have issues with tires and springs unless it carries 15" tires and a beefed up suspension. The 1760 is fairly close to needing a dual axle with a 150 Verado and a kicker. | ||

I've had the trailer checked and everything is fine so it must be a weight issue. I also would not consider it easy to move by hand. The boats a tank | ||

Posts: 1530 | remember. weight on axles. singles 3500lbs. you must include the trailer weight,boat weight etc. tandems with e rated tires -10ply will give you insurance.. on long hauls hot weather its comforting to know.. another major consideration is BRAKES.if your hauling on hi-ways and distance I would definatly go tandem with an excellent surge brake system with the largest actuaater valve available.not having problems mean you have been adamant on your safety. | ||

Posts: 131 Location: Lake St. Clair | Definitely recommend a tandem axle. I have a Tuffy X-190 w/ 200 opti and love the tandem for that. Nearly impossible to move by hand but way way better for hauling. I will travel around 10-15K miles a year hauling the boat and I would never do that on a single axle trailer. A single axle would work for my boat, but id rather have too much trailer than not enough when traveling that much. Plus its nice to have surge breaks when you need them! Although ive never had to do it, if you happen to blow a tire and don't have a spare, you can run on 3 tires until you get to a spot where you can repair or change the tire. With a single axle, you would be dead in the water. You will be much happier with a tandem axle! Edited by waterwolfhunter 12/30/2013 12:01 PM | ||

Posts: 358 | All comes down to manufactures recommendation and weight. Most all trailers have max. weight ratings, I would go from there. I would rather have too much trailer than too little when comes to weight rating for your boat, motor, etc. | ||

Posts: 47 | A tip to move your tandem around a bit more easily: Crank up your tongue jack ALL the way, lifting the front set of wheels off the pavement. If your tongue jack doesn't lift high enough, try lowering it all the way, that may accomplish the same thing for you. | ||
