I'm looking to build a few, do you guys add weight anywhere to the body when you make these type of baits?

Really depends on the wood weight, wood type, mass, prop size, weight, etc. Good post here. These guys are masters of building these topwater baits and will give you a lot of great pointers. I owe my entire business today to the M1 Basement bait builders here on M1. Great group of guys.

One FYI for you. Try a few designs and test them. Build, test, build, test, and you will learn a lot from your own mistakes and successes. Nothing like the first time you go out and test your lure and it actually does what you wanted it to do

I do add a 5-7 gram lead weight just behind the first hook to prevent rolling of the lure. My lures are made of cedar with an epoxy coating. Many many trial and error lures were made until I came up with the design that work.
