| I was wondering if you guys have any luck with rapala muskie lures like the x raps, slashbaits and shad raps. I just recently purchased some to try out. |

Location: Grand Marais, MN | the super shad, biggest x raps, floating magnums, and subwalk are all good lures. smaller for sure than the competition, but they have their time and place. important to have a few smaller lures like these, and everyone knows rapala quality.

| I think the couple "musky sized" lures they have all work well at one time or another. I tend to use my rapala baits like the X-raps and Super Shad's in Spring or other times when fish may prefer smaller baits. One thing I will say is you usually will want to upgrade the split rings and possibly hooks on some of them, they aren't necessarily musky-grade. |

| How are the hooks and split rings on the Glidin' Raps? Do you use both sizes? Size 12 and 15!
Was thinking of getting a couple of each size!

| We mostly use the 15's, we have a couple 12's as backups since they are easier to find local. My favorite is golden shiner and got a real nice fish boatside with the chrome chartreuse(discontinued). I think color is a lake/conditions factor more than anything else. I really like natural pattern and the foil reflects so much light. One thing I like about them is that you can run them in a real tight quick cadence super easily.
The hooks I believe are 3/0 VMC which are proportioned really well to the size of the bait. As with all rapalas, the components are high quality and should be of no concern.
Now, the only downfall (besides the fact they don't make a 8" or 10" model) is that we have had the finish fall apart. Between hook rash and the lure getting trashed by lots of teeth, water finally for under the foil and started peeling. Since I am a rookie basement bait guy, I've started putting an extra layer of epoxy clear cost on mine as an extra layer of protection. It doesn't effect the action that I can tell and it seems to hold up better, plus in the off season I can sand/polish and recoat them.
The last time I ordered was through tackle warehouse I think, they were $12.xx which is great compared to $15-17 elsewhere. |

| Don't laugh too hard, J-13 Rapala in Perch or Pike color has worked for me. They float, cheap and works. |
