I really do it because its a challenge. Its like playing chess(very painful chess), always trying to outguess the fish. Walleye are too easy to catch, and I don't like to eat lot of fish, so muskie are perfect for me. |

Only other fish I enjoy catching almost as much are 4 yr old Kings on the big pond screaming line on 12lb mono.

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | There's magic in those fish! Not to mention Muskie lures ARE the coolest lures on the planet!! The anticipation that comes with prep for a trip to BIG fish waters is beyond priceless. All these years and still look forward to it every time. |

Location: Quebec, Canada | Definitly for the challenge and mostly for the addiction... also when you're catch and releasing all species, fishing for walleyes eventually start seeming pointless, fishing for bass gets boring as it's so easy to get 10 fishes a boat a day... well pike are less a challenge than muskies... and muskies make you spend a lot of time on the water, in the books, on the web, saving cash for unlimited lures that most of them won't even hit that mucht the water as you'll keep on throwing the same confidence lures... but still, the satisfaction of having new equipment and lures gets you a bit closer to the feeling of catching a musky... and that is as addictive as drug.

| I've asked myself that very question. It goes back and forth between "what the F%& am I doing this for?!" to "oh yeah, THAT'S why we're out here!!" As the years go by, it's less about the fish and more about being out there on the water. Why do I fish for muskies?
Because I like the places where they live. I like the challenge. I know I'm going to catch all the other fish if I try. Muskies? Not so much. I love the boatside fish. I love that you actually get to see them eat most of the time. I love that they blow up on baits and miss baits, and sometimes swim up after a lure doing 90 MPH and suddenly decide that they don't want it. I love that you can scare them away. I love that the same fish will blow up on a tail prop three times in a cast and still not eat it. I guess it's kinda dumb, but the friggin' things just plain make me laugh. All fishing is fun, but muskies are good for some serious laughs. And there's no other fishing that I've found in fresh water that can be described as 4 hours of nothing followed by 60 seconds of complete chaos. It's like a jack in the box without the cheesy music. You sit there turning that stupid handle, knowing that at some point a big ugly thing is going to come flying out of there and scare the snot outta 'ya, but you can't help but do it anyway. And every time, it scares the bejesus out of you and you laugh your butt off.
Hmph. Maybe I fish for them because I'm nuts... |

| I have the same reasons as most of the guys who have responded...I love the "mystery" behind musky fishing. They are such an elusive fish...I love the challenge...most people can't understand that I can get excited about not catching a single fish for 3 days but being as excited as a school girl because I had a giant follow my bucktail to the boat. And...I have said it before and I will say it again "Hi, I am Dwayne...and I am a Gearaholic"....and there is SO MUCH GEAR that you either need or "NEED" for musky fishing...I could never buy it all in a lifetime. And when the stars do all aline...and the waters part....and I do actually put a good one in the boat...thats just icing on the cake...especially if my son was with me. |
