Looking at picking up a new reel. Leaning towards a tranx, calcutta d, or a trinidad. So far I currently own a NaCl 60 5.4, an Avid ac300, and a 6600. I'm thinking I need a fast reel for burning and reeling up slack on dawgs, basically a powerful do-all reel. Guessing a tranx hg would be my best choice?

People will say that the tranx hg is to difficult to burn blades in, but I feel its easy to burn them in with the ljv handle on it. This past weekend I felt the hg tranx was easier pulling in the blades than a 400d was.

I'm in a similar spot, I think I'm going to give the new saltist 20 a whirl for the price seems tough to beat

Compare a HG to a trinidad 16. Huge difference or small?

While the saltist is a good reel, the lack of spool brakes can cause issues for some. I love the reel for dawgs and heavier baits, but dislike it for lighter baits. I ended up having custom blades made just so I could add weight to them so they would work better with the reel. But you really can't argue with the 35" per turn pickup.

I had a gold trinidad 16. Bout the same effort but easier to use the tranx since it has a levelwind and a push button for the line release instead of flipping the switch on the Trinidad.

I have a Saltist 40 it is hard to palm and it birdnests alot until you get use to it. But at 47.2 " per crank nothing compares. Two of my friends got the new black 30 and they love it. The price is also hard to beat.

Saltist is a darn good reel for the $$$. I can use that reel to cast any lure in the box. I have 1 of the silver 30's, have had it for 3 years now and not 1 problem. I throw alot of blades, twitchin cranks, pounders, you name it this reel handles it in style. My buddy also has a 40 size, he likes it, i call it the coffee can. Get a saltist and a new rod for the price of a tranxs. Just a thought.

The tranx is so smooth. Pick one up used for under 400 $. Well worth it.

I love my saltist 20 for big rubber but probably wouldn't like to throw big blades into a wind with it. My $.02

I mostly want another reel for rubber. I feel like heaving monster dussas and pounders on my NaCl 5.4 probably isn't the best choice. Also, I don't have a reel that TRULY burns blades. My NaCal with the powerhandle does one heck of a job but not really burning them.

I really like my Tranx for both rubber and blades. There are not that many baits in my box that I don't like with the Tranx. I use it to burn small rattle baits early in the season. A lot of folks probably think it is overkill but it works well for me.

Basically my sentiments. I have a black saltist 20 and love it for the big stuff or marabou blades, but if it's not a weighted flashabou blade I really prefer not to use my saltist.
