Location: Kinkaid Lake, IL | Any thoughts or comments about these motors? I'm leaning towards the F90, but an extra 100 lbs in weight and about $1200 extra has me in a quandary. The boat is a 17ft Starcraft.
Thanks in advance,

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya,
having owned the 90hp 2 stroke , I would say spend the extra $1200 on the four stroke. The 90 2 stroke is the weakest of all 90hp motors due to it's small displacement. The F90 is much larger, and that extra weight is actually a good thing for easier trimming of the bow. With more weight in the rear, the center of gravity of the boat is moved backward, thus allowing the bow to trim easier. Now...the 70 hp will not have as much power, but I still think it will be better overall.
Plus...if you go the 4 stroke way, you will save on fuel cost also.
No doubt the 4 stroke is bigger, but the lack of fumes, the quiet power, and overall performance will be better than the comparative 2 stroke model.

Location: Kinkaid Lake, IL | Thanks Steve! Both of these motors are the new 4 stroke in-line motors. The 70 SOHC 16V EFI and the 90 is a DOHC EFi. Not sure how much that matters... The 70 is more streamline, but I think the 90 would get me out of the hole quicker. I know props play a key part, but I think the 90 is my best bet?

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I misread... Yes...go the 90. I misread it as a 90TLRD which is the 2 stroke.
go the largerst displacement you can get...that will get you the best low end torque and best hole shot...propped correctly as you stated..
