| Any thoughts on a 9ft. being too long for working suicks and other topwaters. Trying to find a dedicated rod.

Location: Denmark | IMO, its just a matter of getting used to any rod length. Shorter rods have more feeling with jerkbaits, and and the shorter leverage allows you, to make longer distinct, and aggressive downward rips or jerks.
A longer rod, in contrary, makes casting easier, and eases figure 8. But agian, if you have strong arms, you might train yourself up, to figure 8 single handed with a shorter rod. |

| I still use a 6' rod for a few jerk baits as I can really rip on them. It sure is wierd switching from a 9' rod to a 6' rod though. When a fish is hooked on a short jerkbait rod more care is needed handling a wild fish and figure 8s aren't too easy either. |

Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | I had an 8'4" jerk bait rod made by Franks custom rods on a predator H blank with a little chopped off the tip. I went up from a 7'6" st Croix premier to this. It's perfect for me, I thought 9' was too long. This lets me work the baits in a downward snap, which I think works much better for me. I still have enough rod for good figure eights and fighting the fish. |

same. and I've put put in many hours with suicks on rods from 6'3 to 9'0. long rod evangalists will no doubt continue to insist that long rods are the only way to go for every lure, if only people would learn to use them right. I use the nasty, sling blade and ranger for 70% of my casting, but I can work a suick best the way I like with a rod that was 8' cut back a few inches so that's what I use. since there's no law against it
BTW the link someone posted higher up was interesting but it was how to use a long rod with gliders, not suicks. A 10" hellhound has little to nothing in common with a 10" suick.

Location: Smith Creek | In the summer I don't use a lot of jerkbaits, when I do I use my 8'6". In the fall I use jerks a lot more, then I have a 7' or 7'6" along. |

I went w/ a Frank's custom at 7'11". I like the length versus th 6'9" and 7'6" JB rods I used to run, but at it's not too long for a downward pull on a suick, bobbie, or even big jake.

| I went from a 7'6" to an 8'6" and I really like it for suicks/tremors. I use a more parallel rod position and it takes much smaller movement to work the baits. It did take some getting used to, but I would not go back at this point as I feel I have more freedom and leverage to move the baits. BR |
