Posts: 1220 | A lot of us fishing Namekagen over the weekend were pretty sad over the loss of fellow musky man Gerald Buss. He fell overboard Friday afternoon while tending a sucker and stayed down. All of us in the tournament coming in from practice Friday saw the commotion of patrol and dive boats, and it continued all day Saturday and Sunday morning until they finally found the body. My partner and I commented all through the weekend that there is simply not enough said about wearing a PFD when the water is too cold, there's too much clothing and the danger is real. I didn't know the guy, but it was hard to get the thought out of my head about how his family must have felt waiting for the divers for close to 48 hours of searching. It's pretty certain a life jacked would have made for an entirely different weekend for everybody!

Posts: 1220 | Just got a call asking if the guy who passed away was part of the tournament. He wasn't. I was told he was just a guy from the Madison area who just happened to be up there fishing at the same time with his friend. Really was too bad though!

yes he was from cottage grove we also fished the tornament was very humbling!! The wind was to the point of holy cow!! Our condolences to the family and I do have great respect for the search and rescue teams that helped in the recovery to bring him home to his family, including the cadaver dog!!

Location: Eastern Ontario | I wear an inflatable in the summer and a float suit in cold weather. Make sure your partner knows how to run your boat. In our area a new cruiser owner fell overboard in Lake Ontario and his wife had no idea how to stop the boat or use the radio he was not wearing a PFD and was lost.

Posts: 1023 | I too wear an inflatable or float suit. I am a good swimmer but who's to say I won't pass out or worse. Started doin this once I had kids. They need their father to return from his fishing trips.

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | When I fish alone in fall, I toss out a 50' anchor line and let it drift behind the boat. One last chance.

Posts: 410 Location: Wakefield, MI | My dad wears his inflatable every time we go out. This spring we were fishing and he had a dizzy spell, thought he was going in, he had an inflatable the next weekend. I gotta get one too.

Posts: 23 | I used to wear a belt with the pull string but then I realized if I hit my head on the side of the boat or became incapacitated, that was not going to help me. I wear the inflatable no matter what, all the time!
