I've got some vacation time to use up and am thinking of taking a long weekend 10/4 through 10/7 in Vilas County. If I make the trip I would plan to focus on a couple of lakes near Minoqua. One is shallower and darker, about 800 acres. The other is deeper and clearer, over 1200 acres. I'd prefer not to hit turnover. I would be planning on doing some sucker fishing, as well as casting jerkbaits, plastics, crankbaits, maybe even some blades. What are my chances this will be during turnover this year at this time (10/4 through 10/7)? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me in planning this trip.

I haven't been on the water in awhile to know where we are currently at, but based on history it is a good bet it could be during turnover during that time.

Chances they're both turning over at that time? 100-1
3-1 on the shallower one
10-1 on the deeper one

Based on history, that can typically be some of the best fishing of the year, around that time.

I was on a 500 acre lake in northern Oconto county (almost Forrest county) this weekend and water temps were still upper 60s and hit 70 by noon and High Falls flowage was 68 .

67.5 degrees on boom chocolate dark tonight ... gonna warm a bit so should slow it down. suckers are in local tanks and fall is hopefully going to begin or continue. we'll see what this warm up does, but heard 55 deg. lows vs. the mid 30's we've had. i ran the furnace for the first time this week.

With so many lakes up there you'll find plenty that are still pre turnover or ones that just roll and truely do not turn over.

Small lakes in LOL's are still mid-60's. Heading back up next thursday, then the following weekend for the St Germain chamber tourny. By the first/second weekend in October, you can expect to see it up there. We hit it on Big St the last two-three years during the weekend of the tourny.
