Posts: 158 Location: Burlington, WI | My wife and I will be camping on Mineral Lake this weekend. Copper Falls State Park was all booked up. We decided to take the boat with. I read on the DNR's website that muskies are common in the lake, but it hasn't been stocked since the late 70's. Can anyone give me any info to whether there is a population worth fishing for them. Also, any other info on walleyes, bass, pike as far as numbers and size. I'm gonna have to fish for something other than muskies part of the time to make the wife happy. Thanks

There's quite a few walleyes, most run about 12", and not a whole lot of bass. Day Lake is about 10 miles down the road, lots of bass (numbers and size) and pretty good panfishing there. Mineral and Day are 2 of the prettiest lakes you can fish in Wisconsin. Take the wife for a hike down the Brunsweiler where it empties out of Mineral, you won't be disappointed.

Posts: 580 | Yep, lots of smallish muskies in Mineral and they reproducing naturally at a relatively prolific level. Most will run 28-34", but there are some in the 36-38" range. If you get a 40" or better, you've likely caught one of, if not the biggest in the lake! Although, I did recently hear a rumor of a 50" coming out of there from the local fisheries biologist, but he himself was unable to confirm and therefore that remains as nothing more than an unsubstantiated rumor. Water is dark brown, the color of black coffee. Weeds grow out to about 2-3' max. There is some nice broadleaf tobacco cabbage in areas. And like Flambeauski says, it is a very beautiful setting and can be a fun little lake for action, especially if you have someone looking to catch their first muskie. Action is relatively easy to come by.
