Posts: 1360 Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | There is a lake by my house that I like to fish at night and topraiders do well for me for bass after dark. So much so that I stopped throwing them because there was to much bass action, not enough musky action. Another one would be to try like a double showgirl. I have had plenty of MN bass hit mine while musky fishing. Grinder Spinner baits with one large colorado blade catch some piggies. But topwater prop baits are good. small bucktails and even 4" phantoms I would imagine would be productive for big bass. You could even go up to the 6" phantom with how big the bass in FL are. Good luck, let us know if it works for you tossing big baits

If you have some big swimbaits that resemble golden shiners, shad, bluegills, and mullet you might do well.

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | Go to tacklewarehouse in California which specializes in bass tackle. They sell lots of topwater baits, frogs, rats, lots of swimbaits too, some very large, some not so much. If I was going for large florida bas I woud definitely have a couple of good topwater baits then some swimbaits, some spinnerbaits, and some crankbaits. jed

Posts: 1263 Location: Walker, MN | Showgirls and Flashy Serial Killers have worked for me. I wonder if Florida bass have seen much flashabou? I would be bringing some spinnerbaits with flashabou and trying that.

Super SHad Raps might work Bring some rubber frogs. I bet soft plastics like reapers would work, too. As far as spinnerbaits go, I've done well with chartreuse skirt , gold willow leaf blade combos. Haven't tried too many muskie bucktails yet, but I've had hits on mepps .

BTW, don't be surprised if you hook an alligator with your muskie baits ( especially if you are chucking top waters or sub surface baits). ![]()

Posts: 230 | The classic Musky jitterbug will catch you big bass anywhere in the country. Fish it at night and hold on. Riverman was dead on when he suggested Tackle Warehouse, those guys are awesome. Otherwise a frog or a big Yump Dinger (Senko look-alike) in the 6 or 7" range will do fine. Those fish down there love to eat snakes.

Posts: 58 | thanks guys. i was thinking of picking up some ERC jig-a-beasts. i was doing some research and big florida bass are in the slop, thick weeds, and reeds. not all musky baits will be ideal in those conditions. of course ill be using big bass plastics as well as i use them normally for canadian bass im thinking top waters, pearson grinders, hellhounds (if deep enough) and other swimbaits/glide baits

Posts: 64 Location: Crystal Lake, IL | buddy caught an 18" and 22" largemouth on a 10" slammer... I don't think it'd be a bad idea if you brought some of your mid-sized musky stuff. 6" phantoms, regular size top-waters, smaller rubber. Dbl 8's, any spinnerbait. If the fish are active, those will all get eaten.

Also,if you aren't already aware, Florida peacocks don't get nearly as big as their counterparts in their native range.. For them spinning gear would be more appropo.

Don't overlook inshore saltwater opportunites. Test your muskie gear on tarpon, sharks, big snook, bull reds, barracuda, or whatever else is available in the arera at the time.

Posts: 246 Location: Grand Marais, MN | My biggest largemouth was on a supershad in my early days of musky fishing. This year I got 4 18"+ on 8" big games and whopper plopper up here in MN. big bass can eat the big stuff, and they prolly never seen some of our yankee muskie lures down there in the south.

Yo. Interesting question. In PA I've caught largemouth on Mepps Magnum Musky Killer with a tandem tail and the 6.5" Drifter Stalker. I wouldn't go that big, though, if I were targeting bass. If I was only after big ones, I might try the regular size Musky Killer with a single tail. I might try a 6" Boumber Long-A (they call it Heavy Duty) in red head with a silver/white body; and silver or natual minnow if available. This lure looks like an easy kill to the predator. Would you go as big as a 6" Jake in a bassy color?

Posts: 87 Location: Minnesota Metro | I've caught several largemouth bass in Illinois on two lures in particular, a shimmerin shad and miller perch colored jointed baby depth raiders. I caught probably a dozen or so on each of them, and nice ones too. Also got some walleye on them as well.
