Subject: Parallel Battery Charging?

Hey guys, just picked up a new boat and am adding two 27 series batteries in the front for the 12v bow mount. I am also adding an onboard charger but am wondering if I should get a 2 bank or 3 bank. One lead will run to the starting battery in the rear and the others to the two batts in the front. Will a larger two bank like a Minnkota MK220 handle the paralleled batteries or should I install a 3 bank so that every battery has it's own lead? I was concerned about one battery feeding into the other one and messing with the digital feedback for the charger. Thanks!

I'd go with a 3 bank charger. Not sure if you need to separate the batteries with the MinnKota charger.

I have that exact rig. i spent quite a bit of time researching it as well. A 2-bank charger will work fine, the only caveat being that charging may take a while. If you get a 3-bank charger my recollection is that you will need a switch to "separate" the trolling batteries in order to charge them separately...but leave them connected and a single bank will go to the TM batteries and the other bank to the starting battery. My 2 group 27 trolling motor batteries easily charge overnite with one bank from my 2-bank 10amp charger, while the second bank charges the starting battery.
