Posts: 275 | Sorry if you guys are getting sick of getting this same old question but I take alot of stock in the opinions of this site! I have three rods and reels, the heaviest lures I own are Mag Dawgs and the hardest pulling lures I own are twin 10DCGs.........how would you guys pair these up? Musky Mojo - 8' H Musky Mojo - 7'6" H TI 8' XH Abu Toro Winch 4.6:1 Abu 6500 C3 5.3:1 Abu 6600 C4 6.3:1 Thanks, Jaimy

Posts: 279 Location: Central Wisconsin | I'd go with the 8' XH w/ 6500 C4 - magdawgs, 8' H w/ winch - big blades, 7'6" H w/ 6500 C3 - most smaller baits. Not what I'd call "ideal" setups, but if you gotta work with what you have that's what I'd do.

8' XH TI with the 6500C3 - Mag Dawgs, Crankbait, Swimbaits 7'6" H Mojo with the 6600C4 - Jerkbaits, Glidebaits, & Topwater 8' H Mojo with the Toro Winch - Bucktails I think you can cover a good bit with those set-up's you have. I would keep the higher ratio reel and short rod for techniques where you work the rod a lot and need a quick pickup of slack (e.g., jerkbaits & glidebaits). I would use the Toro Winch for bucktails, because the low gear ratio will allow you to fish these lure longer without getting beat up. That leaves the 8' XH and 6500C3, which I think will work fine with Bulldawgs and Crankbaits. Not a bad line-up and I do really think you can cover a lot of applications with these three.

Posts: 275 | Thanks both of you for your input. I think I was mistaking the "winching power" of the toro for "beef" to handle the weight of the Mag Dawgs. But using a higher gear ratio for line pickup while ripping/jerking the dawgs is the better option. My original plan was the set up that "guest" suggests.....but appreciate any other opinions as well. Thanks again, Jaimy

Thanks again, Jaimy | ||
