I sure hope it's a misunderstanding, but I heard that "they're" going to open the lake to spearing next year. Anyone have creditable info?

Yep.........You can Thank Sen Bill Engelbritson for that one.... What a fricking joke, there is a slot limit on pike from 24-36 inches, so what the hell are the hicks up there going to spear?

It seems to me that a focused effort by muskie fishermen to oust politios who support spearing might make a difference. There are so few people that spear compared to those of us who are fishing for muskie. I can not understand how the spearing crowd has sooo much power.

It's going to be a nightmare with the slot and poached fish. What a mess.

It would be one thing if we knew it was even being considered in advance, we could mount some sort of campaign and try to enlist public sentiment. My understanding this was slipped in after the main game & fish bill was reviewed and publicized, with little or no chance to mount any kind of defense. They can say all they want about "look and release" and they are able to distinguish between pike and skis (as well they should, it's not that difficult), but the fact is if pike spearing is allowed muskies will get speared and killed - whether accidently or purposely or because they just don't care. It's unfortunate this politico felt the need to cater to such a small contingency.

There goes Battle my favorite Muskie lake. "The locals pound any lake they can in the winter that has fishing biting or able to spear with no regards to destroying it and jut move onto to the next lake with fish"; a quote from a couple of the local fishermen up there! These same people love the income they make in the summer and will wonder where it goes when gone. I hardly ever see a large pike in the area any more between tourists and local keeping anything and everything they catch regardless of thoughts about the future of the lakes.
