Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | Hello all, I am taking an extended weekend trip to a lake in Hayward in September. I apologise, for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the lake. But was wondering if there was any recomendations for guides in the area. Looking for a full day. I know at this point they might be full. But any thoughts or recomendations are appreciated.
Should add, don't care if I am put on trophys or numbers. Either one, just looking for a good guide that can help me get the job done.

Location: Hayward, WI | I live in Hayward. I'm not a guide but I'll take you fishing for a few hundred bucks.  I'll even let you use one of my Hardheads.
Just kidding. I never heard of him before but Tom Boley has posted a few reports on Lake Link, and he's been catching some fish on the deep clear lakes in the area lately. Might want to check him out.
I hired Kieper maybe 5 years ago before I moved to Hayward. For strictly big fish and lots of them he might be your guy. We had an.... interesting experience with him.... PM me if you want some details.
Other than that if I wanted to fish the Flowage I'd check with Ty Sennett. He's usually on fish. Other lakes? I'm not really sure, but I'm sure others will chime in that have experience with Hayward area guides.

| ty is great ,dave darizo , bruce shummway also larry ramsell if he is still guiding .those are the guys ive fished with so far .ive heard os scott and all good stuff.start checking whos open before you get your heart set on one.they may ever recommend someone to you depending on your lake choice.

| Lots of lakes in Hayward and to chose the right guide you need to know which lake you want to fish. Some guides only guide one lake, some guides will want to chose the lake for the day based on what's been hot. Some guides are better on some lakes than others. |

Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | OK, so the lake that my grandmother just told me is called Couderay??? or Coudaray???
(long story short) The reason I am taking this trip is because i found out last season that my Great grandfather was an avid musky hunter. He died before I was 6. I have been an avid fisherman my whole life and have been targetting muskies for 5 years now. I never knew that is was in "my blood" to go after these creatures. Knowing this makes me want to fish the lake he fished to maybe connect with the water on a higher level... if that makes any sense to anyone. So my Grandmother could be wrong, but that is the name of the lake that she gave me.
I am not saying that I have to fish this lake with a guide, but if it is possible that would be prefered. otherwise, I am open to hot bite waters, or whatever water they deem to be the best at the time. |

| LCO's been speared pretty heavily. Not alot of big fish left. There's a decent number of fish in the mid-thirties range in there but it's a big body of water to chase around on for mid-thirties fish. I don't know a single guide in Hayward that will take clients out on LCO for muskies if he's got the choice. I grew up fishing LCO & Grindstone and I don't take clients on either unless they're chasing smallies. If you want numbers I'd try Spider, Tiger Cat, Lost Land & Teal. If you're looking for size, Lake Namakagan is your best shot at a trophy. Bruce or Bill Shumway are probably the best guides on Namakagan. There's a bunch of guides that are good on the other lakes I mentioned; I'd include myself in that mix. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. LCO should turn around in a few years as long as the Indians stop stabbing giant females over the winter. |

If I was going to be staying on a different lake I would forsure wna tot hit LCO regardless. But since I will have my own boat, and will be staying on the lake, I will have plenty of opportunities to fish LCO on my own as well |

| If I were you I'd hire a guide for a full day and split the trip up and do half the day on LCO and the other half on another smaller lake where you can get into some better action. LCO is a good size lake with clear water and if you don't know it well, you'll probably get pretty frustrated out there. If you're chasing muskies out there and just want to get a tight line to get your head back on straight you can go into Little LCO or Musky Bay and throw spinnerbaits over the weeds for pike. That tends to help me out. The time of year you'll be fishing up here is usually perfect for when the bigger fish come back up onto structure to feed so you do have a shot at sticking a dandy. |
