I want to troll a certain area, can I use my casting rods to do it or would this be bad for them?

I do some trolling and usually map out my runs before i put a rod down.... your choice.

You can, but probably not a good idea. Trolling keeps constant stress on the rod and you may not want to possibly damage or weaken your good casting rods. If you are just making a few passes you should be fine though.

I use glass rods for trolling. I fish around rocks so if my bait gets stuck glass rod will take more abuse trolling rods are cheap I would rather break a trolling rod then one of my custom casting rods.

I troll with casting rods. No big deal. Kind of depends on what lure you're using.

you'll be ok but if you start doing it frequently I'd recommend getting a dedicated set-up. They can be done super cheap as fiberglass rods can be had for ~$30 and there are lots of budget friendly line counter reels (I run TDR rods and Okuma reels)

Trolling at 4 to 5 mph for any extended period of time will vibrate most all casting reels apart. Will also destroy drag systems, reel handles etc.

Im not big on using $400 rods for trolling and chances r a decent casting reel isn't cheap either. If you have any older rods its not a bad idea to use them..Def. worth it to get a decent set of line counters and glass trolling rods can be found pretty cheap...
