Can anyone recommend a shop in the Minneapolis are that does paint/gel coat repair...preferrably at a reasonable rate?

I used some poor judgement last weekend when I tied my boat up to a dock when we ran to shore to get out of a storm. The waves came in and my boat rubbed on the dock for about twenty minutes. Didn't think anything of it because the dock had a plastic pad on it's lip. In hindsight I should have beached it and tied up to shore.

Well the next time I took the boat out I was floored at the 'dock rash' that severely scratched up the side of my boat (fiberglass). The scratches are white, so I believe it may have gone throught the paint and gel coat. I am going to put a buffer on it this weekend and see if that does anything.

Thanks, Teddy B

No need for a wrap. The rest of the paint is mint. Thanks

It may be insured!? Try George's Boat Repair in East Bethel. They were always overpriced but maybe you get what you pay for. They do tons of insurance work.

Thanks Captain. I definitely know who not to call also. I will check out George's. I am covered with insurance but I really don't want to file a claim on it but I might in the end. I'll be on the west side tomorrow. If you are on the lake, keep an eye out.

I've had some of that on my boat this week. Turns out the white was material from the bumper stuck on my gel coat. Some careful elbow grease removed it. Are you sure it is missing gel coat and not added material?

I have washed and waxed the scratched area. I can feel the scratches when I run my hand over the area, so I believe it is throught the gel coat. I will take another look tonight. Did you use anything to take the white marks off?

I am planning on running a buffer over the area at some point this week to see if that helps.

Buff it carefully with a high quality polishing compound, not buffing compound. be patient, it takes time, and don't 'burn' the surface with too much speed and pressure.

Thanks Steve. I am borrowing a buffer and polishing compound this week. I have done a bit of detailing in the past, so I will be sure to take my time and not 'burn' her.
