Location: where the fish are... | Hey guys, a good question came up the other nite on the lac du flambeau chain. What lake, if given one full day would you fish to find a "monster"? I have heard of most people saying they would spend most thier time on pokegama or fence. I go up to that area 2 to 3 times a season and spend 4-6 days up there each time. We rarely ever fish that chain but travel off the reservation and fish everywhere else. I am very intrigued by Long Interlacken and have heard of big fish being either seen or caught but no pics, or actual varification of catches. So again the question remains, if you were to spend one or more full days hunting a "monster" on the Lac Du Flambeau chain, where would you fish?

Location: mad chain | I would not fish any of them!!!!! Just kidding low numbers will drive you nuts, but some nice fish on all the lakes.

| Big Crawling Stone gave up a 44# 7oz. fish in '78-'79. Caught by Rick Kaminski from the D-Bar-D resort. As far as I know it's still a line class record for 17lb. test. |

Location: Elk Grove Village, IL & Phillips, WI | I don't remember the lake, but these two were kept in 2005 from the Flambeau Chain. They were caught simultaneously while row trolling. 50 1/2", 34 lb. tiger muskie and a 52 1/2", 43 lb. true muskie.

| I like the chain ever since the casino was built. You can get a nice room there pretty darn cheap if you join the Torchbearers Club (or whatever it's called) then just park your boat at their docks, eat the breakfast and supper buffets, fish the better time windows and enjoy the casino during the off times. I'd say it's not a numbers place however. It's also nice really early May before the ski season opens for some pretty good eating Lake Trout that are catchable there bright and early each season. Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | Great water. I like Lac du Flambeau Lake the best.
Make sure you use the landing at the Flambeau Lake Campsite right by the highway. I have heard bad things about using any other ones.
I won't go to the casino because that tribe spears more Musky and Walleyes then all the others combined. |

| I guess I missed an answer you were looking for THREE YEARS AGO?? And, you are asking now?? No problem! I actually have not been there for three or four years, except for one time last year on Crawling Stone fishing for Smallies, which was a treat by the way! I used to stay at the casino every year on opening weekend with my son, feasted on some terriffic inland Lakers that some of us know about, and did enjoy the casino too! I quit going, but not with anything whatsoever to do with native americans, I quit because my son had reached an age where the "gambling thing" made me feel uncomfortable as a proper example. Clearly, I don't live Up North, I don't have the history or "issues" that many of you do, but I, personally, do not get into these sorts of debates. I am opposed to furthering discussion that pits one race, religion or culture against another one. I think that allowing any sort of hatred to become entrenched only delays the ultimate "negotiated settlement" that provides for the satisfactory conclusion of disputes in general. Mostly, however, I am just here to talk about musky fishing and would rather tell you what reel is best for pulling double tens! Marty Forman |
