Anyone had luck with the Squirrly Burt? If so, how/what circumstances do you fish it?

Squirrly is a bait in my box that I should probably spend more time wetting than not. I've had good luck with the bait in weedy bay areas or distinct weed edges. Now some squirrly burts don't behave very well out of the box and need some tweeking by bending the line attachement. In fact, it seems that the baits that I just hate throwing because it wants to track to one side or does some funky moves such as popping out of the water are the fish catchers. It just shows we don't need that perfect side to side or pretty retrieve to catch fish. Use short quick taps with the rod tip and make sure you're moving the bait forward as you twitch the bait. By cranking the handle a couple turns and quick pops of the rod is an effective technique. It's a definite must have in the tackle box and can work through the weeds pretty well. It's considered one of my favourites in the jerkbaits category.

catch ya later,
Krappie

Use it. Twitch it. Pull it. Be it. They are good baits. I actually like both the burt and squirrely version.
