I'm just getting started in the buck tail tying "hobby" I've seen several different products that will give you a uniform loop at the top and bottom of your wire - I also saw some guys at the Chicago show with homemade devices - one guy said his buddy who is a machinist made his - anybody out there with a good system or ideas they can share?

Depends on how good you want it look. For the hobby man I recommend this.

A nail in a vice and a small vice grip can give you a good bucktail tie. For leaders I use a tool made by the Worth company that looks like a C-clamp (Sold in many sporting good stores). Its $5 and ties leaders neat and clean with ease.
