Posts: 52 | So I have a 2012 200 optimax and at an idle I get 6 warning beeps. Any thoughts before I take in? 2 weeks ago I had a coil go bad and I didn't feel it was pushing enough water so I paid to have the impellor relaced(didn't change the flow). It only happens at an idle.

Simply remove the fuel filter and dump the water out if there is water in it. To purge the engine oil reserve, turn the motor on, open the cap and allow the oil to come to the top. If you look at page 52 and 53, it lists all warning signals. A continuous beep is more serious and more than likely would require a Mercury Tech to look at it. http://www.mercury-marine.eu/cache/Documents/Mercury/OptiMax%20225/...

Posts: 5874 | Are you sure it's 6 beeps? And only at idle? Could be a sensor alarm condition, such as Throttle Position Sensor, or one of the temp sensors. I had some dirt in my compressor cooling chamber, and it restricted flow some. After it idled for a while, it would beep constantly on acceleration. Sometimes all I had to do was back off and accelerate again, other times, I had to turn the motor off and restart. Then it would be good for most of the day. Took it to the dealer, and they cleaned it out, and no more issues. Intermittent short beeps is a non critical situation, so you can use your motor until you determine the problem. Continuous horn is a critical alarm, and you should not run the motor. Get it to a Merc Dealer and have it diagnosed before further use. Does it ever go into Engine Guardian mode? 4 beeps every two minutes is either the OIL Reserve tank low, or the water in fuel from the engine mounted fuel filter/water separator. If it's the oil level low, it will usually sound just as you are accelerating to plane. Make sure the level is to the top in the reservoir. If not, fill as noted. If it continues even when full, it's likely the magnet on the float has come off. If so, you'll need a new oil reserve tank, about $60-70. Maybe cheaper on E-Bay. To empty the water from the fuel separator, DO NOT remove fuel filter. There is a hose under the fuel chamber from left to right. Remove the hose from the right side fitting, and put in a container to collect the contents of the fuel chamber. Use a 1/8 in. hex wrench to loosen the drain screw on the left side by the fitting, and drain the fuel filter chamber. You can force fuel through the system by using the primer bulb. Close the drain screw, and replace the drain hose to the right side fitting. Pump the primer until hard. Hope this helps.

Posts: 52 | It is 6 beeps and only at an idle. I drained fuel filter/chamber into clear glass--no water. The engine mounted oil tank is plum full and remote tank is 3/4 full. I'm guessing that I will need to make another appointment to get it looked at. It has never gone into Gaurdian mode. One question for you guys, I said I had the impellor replaced. How long should it take for water to start shooting out after start up? My engine will run for about 7-10 seconds then it will start trickling out before going into a steady stream. Just wondering if thats normal for this engine?

Posts: 5874 | The 200 Opti has 2 thermostats, one on each head. If the water is cold, it can take a while to come out the tattle tale. I've seen mine take minutes in 35 degree water. So I'd say you're OK with the tattle tale. Does the beeping go away when you power up? As mentioned, beeping is a non-critical alarm, so I don't think you are doing any harm, but I would probably get it in to be looked at. Maybe call your dealer service guy and ask him what 6 beeps can mean. It's possible a T-Stat is stuck open or closed? I had SmartCraft on mine, so I never worried about the tattle tale much. BTW, the SmartCraft gauges are the best accessory I bought for my boat. I knew what temp each head was at. The new versions are better now, too. I'd invest in one if/when I get another boat with a Merc.(Probably next year) Edited by Shep 7/1/2013 3:56 PM
