Registrations are coming in hot & heavy now. You still have a little over 2 weeks to get the early-bird $34 rate. Prices go up to $44 beginning March 12th - so if you are planning to attend you still can get the cheaper admission. The reel repair classes are filling up and have limited seats due to the 3:1 student/teacher limitation. Those classes are about full. The other classes still have sufficient capacity. There are a number of new classes this year and the hot lunch has been arranged and will be catered in by a very high quality caterer. Take a look in the Video section of Muskiefirst for more details. Our faculty & school administrative team have over 500 years of collective experience pursuing the elusive muskie. What a great way to get ready for the 2013 season!

Posts: 46 | I signed up for the second year in a row. Last year we had some nice weather for the drive up from Chicago. Hopefully I will learn some new skills and also meet a few more forum readers. I would love it if there was some open water near the highschool. Anyone know of a pond or place close by to cast a new lure or rod and reel?

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Justin any size pond will be frozen yet. The WI river is open, but better not be throwing big lures as that would mean you are targeting a species who season is closed now. Now if you want to target walleyes, the WI river below the Sauk dam is open. And if its nice you can bet that many boats will be there fishing as well. Edited by muskie! nut 3/6/2013 8:08 AM

Location: Middleton, WI | The rates are going up on this after this coming Monday. You can still get the early bird rate until the 11th - next Monday. So if you are planning to attend make sure you get the form in & received by this coming Monday. The reel repair class is full, but everything else is open and we have plenty of room and a ton of great instructors and sessions. This is going to be the best school ever and the raffle will be unprecedented at the school. We have really nice high-end muskie combos, baits, tackle boxes, net and a lot of people are going to be taking home some really nice raffle prizes. Tickets for the raffles are $2 and the Super raffle tickets are $5, plus we will be having silent auction for 4 guided muskie trips with some top-sticks.
Hope to see you there!! | ||

Very very informative school with a lunch that is worth half the admission. Three seminars, all you can eat lunch and major raffles at the end of the day. Everyone who attends usually is there every year. For $34 bucks you get so much for you money. Plus all day you can talk muskies with others and instructors. So many class to chose from is the hardest part of this school. Choose one seminar per time slot from multiple options. Three classes, lunch and raffles for $34. Sounds too good? Just thank the Madison Chapter Muskies Inc and all the instructors who Donate their time and knowkedge for you and others to learn more about Muskies!!!!! Oh ya......The money raised goes back into the reource by stocking muskies in Madison area lakes. Sign up now for $34 and enjoy the day with us!!!!!

Posts: 68 | That's me in the top pic registering! Had a great time. Entertaining and full of knowledge. You all do a wonderful job setting this up and the food was delicious. This was my first time coming, and I'll be making sure to come back every year now. Once my kids get old enough I'll be bringing them with me. I did the top water class with Lee in the morning. Always great talking and listening to him. Haven't got a top water musky yet so that is high on my list to accomplish this year. Then I did Steve and Crandall's class on new water which was very informative. Especially since I'm looking for a new fish finder/GPS. Already downloaded some new apps to my phone too. Got some great tips from them. Last class I did was Jeff, Leif and Don on the Madison Chain. Again, great info. I've never fished the Mad Chain but feel a lot more confident now to give it a try. Could have listened to these guys talk all day, and got a good list of some lures to try out. Didn't win any raffles, but I did win one of the Fishing Guide auctions! Thanks for a great, knowledge filled day, Gents! I'll see you again next year. TK

Posts: 255 Location: MadCity Wisconsin | Hey Kleck, glad you enjoyed the Muskie School. Very pleased that you will be a repeat student. About 50 percent or more come back to the school each year with more new students every year. This is our 3rd straight year with over 200 students in attendance. We try to improve the classes and class selection every year and it has paid off. Attendance helps us stock 500 Fingerling muskies every year each implanted with a $4.00 PIT Tag. This is big money but the school helps our muskie stocking efforts. Thanks to all in attendance for your continued support! Nice pictures Steve & Keith! Thanks for being on the faculty Steve - you have not missed one of the schools since the very beginning! Wow! The evaluations look very, very favorable. We have a number of excellent suggestions for classes to be offered at a future school. We expect to offer the school again next year, assuming our Board approves it. Classes including the impact of weather in muskies, fishing the Mercer area, trip planning, map interpretation, maintenance and repair for boats, trailers and motors, float trips with fly equipment down various rivers, etc. have been recommended for an upcoming school by the students who attended Saturday. For those who did not attend but might in the future - please share your recommendations & suggestions for new class offerings with us. What topics that weren't covered this year - should be? Please provide your ideas either on this forum or PM me at: [email protected] FYI - we cannot offer every class that is recommended but we have definitely provided a number of classes that were recommended by students and interested muskie anglers. For example, after last year's school the "History of Muskie Fishing" was suggested. As a result we offered the class this year. The class was well attened and according to student evaluations - it was a big winner with students. Therefore, we'd appreciate it if you'd share your good ideas and suggestions for new classes with us! Many thanks to those who attended as instructors/students and Staff who participated in and supported this event!!! Geoff Crandall

" Geoff disregard those bad evaluations for that crazy guy that was trying to show student how to make single strand leaders. He's not all there because he's been at that muskie fishing game way too long. Edited by muskie! nut 3/18/2013 8:14 PM

Posts: 68 | Gotta give a shout out to Matt Raley. The guy can find some fish! I won the auction for a half day guided trip with him and we went out yesterday. Great afternoon. Raised 5 muskies. Hooked one, but lost it near the boat when it jumped out of the water and shook it loose. I set the hook hard too but just not in the right spot. Happened less than 10 feet from me, and I swear the musky jumped out about 3 feet. Completely out of the water. Amazing view of it all, like it was in slow motion. Never seen anything like it except for on TV. It was awesome! I will never forget that moment. One of my musky bests! Thanks, Matt! Will definitely do another trip with you.
