Posts: 46 | With the Ontario opener just over a week away, how would/are you guys going to fish for them with the cool/colder spring we have had? We are planning a trip to the West Arm of Lake Nipeeing and having never fished the water before nor the opener, was looking for any thoughts. Thanks, TR

With Mother Nature up to her old tricks for the opener, the fish will either be pre-spawn OR in the act of spawning. Either way----- the muskies will be in or near the dark-bottomed spawning bays. I would check the shallows first and work your way out to the points on the outside of the bays. If you still are not contacting fish, check for schooling baitfish suspending near the mouths of the spawning bays-----troll,troll,troll, and you'll contact fish. Don't necessarily use small baits----my partner last year was trolling 10 Jakes through the bait----and caught 2-48 inch plus fish in two days. Good luck---Jobu

Posts: 1023 | Water temps were very low south of there onSt Clair. Weed growth was barely started The advice about shallow and warm sounds good to me. The fish are away behind schedule IMO. Landry

Posts: 94 | I like Jobu's advice. Here is a NOAA link for the Lake of the Woods water temperature/weather buoy: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=45148 It was about 58 this morning but up to 63 yesterday afternoon. Hope it keeps warming! If you do a bit of searching you can find a Canadian site with this buoy plus several from other Ontario lakes. Good luck!

Posts: 540 Location: Leech Lake, Walker MN | Water temps here on Rowan Lake are 61in bays seeing fish paired up and spawning Main lake is 55 still pretty cool but we have had wind less days and that is what it takes To really get the water warmed up.i my opinion it going to be a great opener, fish will be in the classic places in some very shallow water.all the best to every one coming to Ontario for the greatest fish of all.Always calm waters to you. Posts: 174 Location: Ontario | Was up on Georgian Bay(Parry Sound) on the weekend. Water temps were between 58-60. Pike were moderately interested, nothing crazy. Sunday with the sunshine brought most of the action. Edited by Tim R 6/10/2013 9:33 AM

Posts: 540 Location: Leech Lake, Walker MN | Today's temps on Rowan were in the mid 60s main lake was at 60. Seeing some beat up skies so the spawn is in full swing in the shield lakes. Setting up to be a great season.

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | seen a lot of catches from LOTW, albeit smaller fish but sounds like the action was good....I know there was also an absolute giant taken from Lac Seul out of Moosehorn, think it was about 56" if I read correctly...massive head and good girth Edited by Musky Brian 6/16/2013 2:00 PM
