Yesterday I was honored to be part of the Take A Vet Fishing event held in Madison Wi on the Lake Waubesa. This was the second year and the size of the event literally tripled in size! The way it works is, you are assigned two Veterans to take out fishing for a half of a day. Catching fish is great but really secondary to what is this is all about. The guys and girls are just happy to be out and having a good time on the water. Between all the stories, the laughs the appreciation on both ends, catching fish is just an added bonus. The Madison chain is full of fish and we did catch a bunch. This was my first time on Waubesa and my vets lucked out into a musky, a nice largemouth and a good bunch of crappies. They did a great job of catching fish and kept me laughing for the time out there. After the fishing portion is done, the vets do a flag ceremony and a prayer and then it is time for some good food and drinks! A lot of great people involved and we will certainly need more guides for next year as this event is growing quickly! You can contact me or go to www.takeavetfishing.com to get involved for next year. We will need the extra help and it's an awesome event!!

I have to second what Chris said this is one hell of an event. The Vets are so wonderful and the guides were all working so hard to make this event great. The man who should be singled out is Jay Garsecki. He is a truly class act with nothing but the best interest of the Veterans and guides. He was a pleasure to deal with. I personally look forward to doing this event again next year.

Nice events to have. I have a hard enough time getting guys in my unit to go muskie fishing though!

I took a look at the website and it looks like this is only in Wisconsin. Are there any similar programs in the MN metro area? This is an awesome idea I'd like to take a vet out.

Holding an event 6/21 on Tonka. I did it last year and was a great time.
It's for the service members and their families. Not sure if they still have guide openings, but check it out.

Heard about this at the Milwaukee Musky show. Very cool program. I pre-fished with one of the guides last week and know two of the vets who got out fishing. Nothing but great things to say from everybody involved. Only wish I had my own boat so I could take guys out too!

We run a vets outing on Pewaukee Lake, we being Milwaukee Muskies Inc. I like how you guys run this one, as it is more than just musky fishing. I'm thinking we could draw more vets if we fished for more than just muskies.

Thanks for the post.
