My livewell pump has really never worked but it's just about sucker season and I'd really like to not be the Cecil B DeMille of sucker killing this year (at least before they make it in the lake).

Question: if I purchase the below product (follow linkage), can I hook it to the starter battery, while having portable charger on the battery, without basically destroying all of my electronics. Might be a dumb question, but boats and electricity are not always my friend.

Thanks!

I have kept them alive in cooler, by just adding ice periodically, might help avoid electric issues:) happy new year!

Great advice. Having nothing to do with my original question or concern about destroying my engine and electronics.

Hiya Slamr,

Wish you were closer to the twin cities... We could replace your livewell pump in the boat for the same price and have you up and running in about 15 minutes.... I'd help out.

In a nutshell, the livewell pump is held in place by the exit hole through the transom which is basically a nut and a gasket. Take that off, and the livewell hose, and it would be free. Then, clip the two wires and add connectors.

Get your new aerator in (reverse the process of removal), add a couple of connectors to the wires on the new unit and you would be in business.

Yes I would put a fuse inline rated slightly higher than the Aerator draw. That way if something shorts in the aerator it will not do bad juju to anything else. If you want PM me about what is all connected and how and I will try and help out. My day job is a bit higher voltage often but still dc.

Andrew, I can't see where having that kind of draw would actually fry anything. I've got a portable aerator that I hook up to my truck battery during sucker season that I can run 12 hours without it even wearing the battery down. As long as you're running the boat from time to time during the day, I don't see a problem. If anything is going to fry, it's going to be the lightest gauge wire - presumably the wires to the leads on the aerator. Not that that's a good thing, but I wouldn't worry about blowing up your boat. If you're that worried, run it for a few minutes at a time and then shut it off. We've had suckers go 6 hours in the livewell in the fall before we remembered to turn it on and they made it through the weekend.

Your livewell pump has a replaceable cartridge. Take it out and see if you have something stuck in it, or if it's just frozen up all this time. Cartridges can be purchased all over. Connectors are on the boat wiring. Can't remember if they come with the cartridge or not.

Do not put commercial ice, or tap water ice in your livewell, Cecil B. The chlorine will kill your suckers for sure. If you have a dehumidifier, use that water, or rain water, or lake water. Don't use tap water unless from your personal well.

I wasn't mad, just figured my advice was not going to be helpful.
