| For those of us that do not have an on board charger, what is your choice for a solid trolling motor battery and charger?
And, what do you think of the New Gel cell batteries out there today?

| I have used both Guest and Dual Pro chargers...No complaints on either one.
I don't have experience with that battery technology, will be interested to hear what others have say.
I am not sponsored by a battery company and have had no problems running Farm-Fleets deep cycle batteries. With proper care I have had them last at least 2 full seasons sometimes 3. I am on the water 3-4 days per week on average and my trolling motor runs almost constantly.

| I use a Motorguide on board charger. Simple, easy, and you can't over charge. Just plug it in and all three batteries are charged.

I use a 3 bank Dual Pro charger, so far I haven't had any problems with it. Nice and easy, pull up to the dock and plug it in, in the morning I'm ready to go!!![:)] |

| I'm not a pro, but I fish a lot and have lots of batteries in my boat to take care of....I second Florio on the Pro Dual charger. They use top technology and you'd have to be a moron to not know how to use it, or screw it up...just plug it in and it monitors each battery so that it knows what each one of them needs. |

| I have a Dual Pro two bank to charge my trolling motor batteries, and it works well. I don't use a charger on my starting battery and let my main engine (225 Optimax) handle that one. We run lots of miles and my starting battery is pretty much charged by the big motor. Dual Pro seems to work fine, but I'll bet the most inboard charger by any major manufacturer will work about the same. They pretty much do the same thing, and cost about the same.
I used to have on my last boat what had what Nisawa Electronics called "Loop Charging" and they had it rigged up so that the big motor would charge the trolling motors. You had a plug-in that you had to move from one trolling motor battery to another during the day, but the main engine would charge both the main battery and one trolling motor battery. After a while you would put the plug in the other hole and the motor would charge the other trolling motor battery. This worked great if you would run lots of miles, I could go for two weeks before I would charge the trolling motor batteries. If I would have trouble during the day, all I would have to do is run for 10 miles and the trolling motor batteries would at least last for a couple of more spots. Interesting deal, and it seemed to work!
