I have four years gold warranty left on my optimax 115 and 8hp four stroke.

I get info in the mail today to upgrade to the platinum for $159.75 for the opti and $21.30 for the 8hp. The Plat will cover electrical, more of the fuel system, more of the trim, and controls and instruments.

I can also add a year for $649.65 and $958.50 for an extra two years for the opti and $85.20 for one year and $138.45 for two years on the kicker.

I had no idea electrical wasn't under warranty.

What do you guys normally do?

Hopefully I will sale the boat in four more years and upgrade depending on future finances.

It isn't a waranty if you have to BUY it it's insurance . Is this just to upgrade what you now have or does it extend you out to 6 years.

The first dollar amount upgrades to platinum for the remainder of my factory warranty which is 4 more years from today. The other dollar amounts extends it to either 6 or 7 years.

My boats in the shop right now. I can't hear my fuel pump pressurizing and my motor won't start. My standard warranty expired 3 weeks ago and the remaining gold doesn't cover fuel issues. So depending on what this is going to cost...yes maybe I wish I would have.

I would buy the extended coverage.

1) Say you keep the boat...more coverage means you're covered longer.
2) Say you plan to sell the boat...more coverage means you can keep the boat longer and still be able to offer the boat for sale with remaining coverage in place. In theory anyway, it makes it easier to sell. Two similar used boats for sale, one with coverage remaining and one without. Which one do you buy, all other things being pretty much equal?

Either way, it seems to me as though the extra coverage is advantageous. Now if Mercury will let you buy the extended coverage at any time you have coverage in place, then maybe wait a year or two before buying more coverage. But if they won't allow you buy more coverage down the road, then I guess you have to pony up more $$$ now.
