The Upper Fox River flooded out pretty bad a few weeks ago and still is a bit high.. Was just there on Saturday and saw this skull off the road about 500 yards from the river in a flooded out marsh. Threw on the waders and grabbed it to get a better look. Not a 70 pounder, but big enough to make my foot look small in the waders. Size 12 shoe with insulated waders... Those Buffalo get huge, but I've never seen one like the one originally posted!!

Huge.
I hoping to get one on the line soon. No chance of one that big around here unfortunately.

Growing up in Wis. Rapids in the 1960s, we used to go up by the canning factory on the Wis. River just up from the dam. The plant would discharge canning waste directly into the river through a big culvert (this was before clean water laws). The water would be green with bean waste and the carp would be in there in numbers. A couple of kernels of canned corn on a number 6 hook, 200+ yards of mono on a medium spinning reel/rod and we would catch carp all afternoon. We had an old brass hanging scale we would tie to a tree limb. It went to fifty pounds and we maxed it a number of times. We just tossed them back in the river after weighing them.

The big ones were not the fighters, that was the ones in the 10 pound range. With the drag set to the breaking point of the line, I got spooled more than once and so did my buddies. We bought big 1200 yard spools cheap and just put new line on.

What we never could figure out was why carp that were literally stuffed with bean waste would eat a couple kernels of corn.

Just "baffalo". They're a native unlike all carp.
