I was cleaning my 401TE and when I put it back together I have a problem. Now when I turn the handle it makes a horrible clicking sound. I reassembled it and it still does it. I know it isn't the clicker. It doesn't happen until I place the drag star on (before that it turns without problem).
I'm hoping someone here might know what I did and I won't have to send it out.

Thanks for the help.

That did the trick. You are awesome.
The only down side is the pawl got bent before I realized what was wrong. I got it working but will need to order a replacement.

Thanks for the help.

U can bend it back, make sure it looks like this.

I did bend it back to where it works. But it was bent in 4 different ways. It seems to be working fine, but I like my gear in top order and will probably replace the part also.
Thanks for everything.

Also the A/R Ratchet has a dipple on one side, make sure that side is facing up, I will polish the ratchet, starting with 800grit working up to 2000 grit then will use a metal polish, that will smooth out the effect the A/R Pawl has on the A/R Ratchet.

Best to replace the A/R Pawl every 1-2 years.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a reference for cleaning / maintaining the calcutta 400TE? The cleaning instructions on shimano's web site don't seem to match the 400TE well.
Are there any other parts that you consider routinely changing?

GO TO: http://www.calfishing.com/freshwater/calcutta_te_maintenance_guide....
At the end it has 2 Mod.options to gain a little more out your TE.
Just oil your reel bearings once a month and clean your reel once a year and your TE will last a lifetime.
