| I was planning on getting a Tranx Reel PG for throwing double 10's and was told by a few club members this would work great with big blades. But now I am hearing that I should order the high speed /higher geared reel. I am totally confused now. Can someone who uses these reels help me so I purchase the correct reel. Thnx JB |

I too am in the same situation, I was sold on the HG but then I talked to a few guys who said the HG can actually be too fast and blows the lure out of the water???
I was also told the PG at 30" per turn is fast enough and esier to increase the speed if you want burn them. It also has the power to go all day where the HG will tire the average guy out.
Do a search and you will read more and get totally confused.

Location: Minnesota | the pg is better for blades if thats what your going to use it for get the pg.i have the hg use it for big rubber workes great to pick up line fast. the pg will be able to burn your blades all day long with no effort much better then the hg for blades. |

Location: Chicago | Everyone has their own preferences nothing is set in stone. With that being said I would estimate that a bit more people use the PG for blades from my own observation. Yet there are people who like the HG because it fits their style. You need to make trying both a priority before buying so you can make your own decision. |

| the lake I fish has mostly fish in the 25-44 inch range, so I felt like a HG tranx burning in double cowgirl juniors with #9 blades would be best! |

Location: Lakeville, MN | I have both, and am confident in saying that if you are getting it primarily for 10's and up blades, get the PG. On a full spool, if I reel like normal, I will blow 10's out of the water if the pole tip isn't in or just above the water. If you are going to use an HG to toss 10's and 13's for 8 hrs straight, it works but leaving the spool 3/4 full and adding a power handle is a good idea; the PG is still much easier and with PLENTY of speed. Again, these comments are only for size 10 and up blades. |

| I decided to buy a hg over a pg for blades and rubber. A 400d gets 27" while tranx pg gets 30" costing over a 100$ more new and twice the size.
I wanted to add something new to my aresenal 43" and paired with a ljv handle I can burn in 10's with little fatigue and pick up line fast for rubber. I spool mine all the way. |

| John I think you are buying the correct reel.....The PG.......I do not have one myself but if I am understanding it right it is more in the gearing than line pick up. I also have the Calcutta but I would not recommend it for throwing Double 10's and 13's all day..... But everyone says the PG is like butter reeling the 10's in......The Calcuttas are sure as hell not like butter, They are more money but not that much more. My buddy just got one online for $370 shipped. I have just not EVER been happy with a High Speed reel. I have never had one that did not bind and make me work a little harder than I want to. Sure they will burn in a small Bucktail But I will Guarantee you that when you put a lot of pressure (Double 10/13 Blades) on that High speed reel You WILL be working a little harder than you thought you would be.... High speed was designed for smaller lures, too move faster. JMO Mike Sr |

| JB you will love your PG for big blades...huge difference in a PG and a 400 for big blades ...end of the cast with a 400 your getting like 18-20" per crank....Tranx like 26-27" , big spools = a large advantage using 80 and 100lb super line + the 4.6 gearing for 10's-13's is money, the PG is more than capable of moving large blades very fast. I have the HG on the way as well, but I'll never use it for big blades... burning small blades and tossing big rubber will be the uses for my HG. |

| I have both. Power is relative. The HG retrieves 10s with ease. 13s a tad more pull, but overall it is still pretty easy. You can add a longer power handle to relieve this even further. The PG is a tractor. 13s feel like literally nothing. (not kidding.) I find myself slow rolling with my PG as well as using it to horse giant cranks since I can "twitch" with the reel handle. (think 14" jakes)
For blades, the HG is my reel of choice. IMO the extra power of isn't enough of an offset for the speed of the HG. Fatigue wise even with all the power, you are going to exert energy producing the hand speed necessary for the PG to compete iwth the HG. I think guys make the mistake of assuming the HG is like a bass reel where it is all gas and no power. The gear ratio thing still applies, but the gears in these reels are much bigger. The HG still has power, as I said, it pulls in 10s with ease, it just doesn't turn them into butter like the PG does. |

| i have the High speed one too and love it for burning 10s.... my spool is pretty much full and i can use it all day no issues..i put the 16NA power handle on it for more leverage... |

Location: Black Creek, WI | I think this is a good question.... and considering the amount of money involved and varying personal preferences..... this is a classic situation where you should TRY BEFORE YOU BUY to ensure you make the best choice for you.
Brad Nelson recommends the HG. Jim Saric recommends the PG. Thus, how does one decide for themselves without taking one for a test drive?

| For me the pg would be a niche reel when they start making 20 s. If 10's are giving you trouble you can cup them a little more to take off the pull. |

Hilarious! What a legend you are, almost of Paul Bunyan-esque proportions!
I almost feel sorry for these dudes that make up their mind only to have people jump in saying the exact opposite. I casted 10's and 13's for a week straight, 12-14 hr days, with an HG last year and was fine until I started getting fatigued the last afternoon. HG was great; I cannot wait to do the same with the PG this year. I've been casting both; I can easily blow 10's out of the water with the PG; it's going to be SWEET. I will use the HG too, for rubber, certain cranks, and some blades for a change of pace - but mostly the PG. |

| Cant slow roll a HG at night. PG is more versatile. At 30 inches per crank, it allows you to reel faster to urn, but also crawl in the bait come evening to slow roll. HG is to fast for that application. If you cant make up your mind....buy both.  |

Location: Contrarian Island | agreed, hi speed is not the reel for slow rolling, it can be done, you have just have to reel so slow it's like watching paint dry, but it can be done, I've used the HG for days and days on end with little to no fatigue....i'm not paul bunyan either, lol..... the PG is intriguing tho and i'll probably pick one up this year |
