| I fish a lot of shallow weedless areas and I like how snag less spinnerbaits are. Has anyone replaced their trailer hook with a long shank double hook? I am thinking about trying that this year to increase my hookup percentage |

Location: Denmark | I have tried that, but it did not increase my hookup ratio. But not all spinnerbaits are build the same, Esox Customs hooks just fine with a single hook, and a single trailer. |

Location: Perryville, MO | Increase your hook percentage with a spinnerbait? no bait in my box comes close to a spinnerbait in terms of hooking percentage. My suggestion would be to try a Nutbuster. No need for a trailer hook. I know it seems to go against the grain a bit, but it works effectively. I have trailer hooks on the great majority of my bass spinnerbaits, but there's no need for one on the nb which is really nice in the slop. In your situation you could replace the single hook with a treble if you really want to, but again Im not sure why because fish seem to hang on to spinnerbaits for me. |

| One theory to consider... When a fish clamps down on a single hook, it turns and flattens in the fish's mouth--allowing the hook to slide into the corner of the jaw. If you use an upriding double hook, you will probably prevent the hook from rotating flat. This may actually reduce your hooking percentage.
So, do you want one hook in the corner of the jaw, or two hooks in the roof of the mouth? I would probably choose one hook in the corner of the jaw. I don't have any solid knowledge to support my theory--I am just thinking through it logically. Feel free to question me on this. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Location: Eastern Ontario | I actually do better with no trailer. before removing my trailers I found most fish were on the primary hook. On two occasions I missed good fish when the trailer had worked it's way up to the barb on the main hook and I felt the rubber keeper had prevented penetration past the barb. After that happening I locked the trailer in position with about half of an alunimum wire crimp but eventually went to no trailer and have not had any hook up issues and much easier releases |
