| The April meeting of the Muskellunge Club of Wisconsin is going to be a good one! On April 10 at 7:30pm our club will meet at the Thunder Bay Grille just off I94 and Hwy 164 in Pewaukee. Our members and guests that night will be treated to an exciting presentation on an award-winning fish habitat construction project on the Dairyland Reservoir near Ladysmith in northwestern Wisconsin. Our speakers that night will be Brad Foss; Senior Environmental Biologist for the Dairyland Power Cooperative in Northern Wisconsin and Jerry Carow; retired DNR warden and current President of the Rusk County Wildlife Restoration Association that spear-headed that project.
The project began with substantial work during the 30 foot draw-down during hydro-electric dam work back in 2007 and has continued in the years that followed including more work this winter. This is an amazing project with positive results in the way of fishing success for all species - especially muskies - that continues to this day! Brad will be making this presentation even more exciting not only because of his interest in fish habitat, but because of his love for muskie fishing!
The Dairyland Flowage holds a special place for my dad and me. It was only 1 year after the draw-down that he and I spent Halloween day soaking suckers out there. And the thing that made it such a special day - even better than just hanging out with my dad for the day - was that he RELEASED HIS FIRST EVER LEGAL MUSKIE - a beautiful, solid 41"er (https://plus.google.com/photos/115335828109134242590/albums/5335911234585971249/5399357170618227762?banner=pwa). The few muskies my dad had caught prior to that day went home with him so that day was a giant turning point in his fishing career! And I got to experience it with him from the front row!!!
Please share this information with your friends and consider joining us at our next meeting on April 10. Hope to see you there! BTW, I've attached a few pics of some of the structures that were constructed during the initial phase of this project.

| The attached pics in the original post showing some of the structures that were built in the bottom of the Dairyland Reservoir when it was drained. Those pics appear to be kind-of bit. Be sure to click on the "Zoom -" to shrink them down to something viewable for the size of your monitor. |

| It strikes me that this presentation will be a real-life opportunity to experience exactly what side-scan and down-scan technology is actually seeing. From what I've heard and from a little bit of personal experience, the Dairyland Reservoir is a fantastic multi-species fishery (especially muskies!) that has only been made better by all the fish structure that has been added. Should be an interesting topic and speakers this Wed, April 10 at the Thunder Bay Grille in Pewaukee. Hope you can make it. |
