Yesterday the star tribune had an article on Gil Hamm, one of the forefathers of muskies inc. and how it's changed musky fishing to the sport we know today.

And a GREAT Gentleman! Minnesota has the best trophy muskie fishing on the planet and it can all be traced back to my dear friend Gil.

I still laugh when I think about how Release wasn't the main objective in the early years of Muskies Inc....in fact the first year they had a category for Release, I won with just three fish and they even forgot to have the trophy made for the awards meeting. Gil was a bit red-faced over that! LOL

When Dr. Jerry Jurgens released a 50-incher at the 3rd Annual MI Tournament, that really kicked the promotion of catch and release into gear. That was followed by a 50-pound release by Dave Johnson, and as they say, the rest is history!!

It is a great article and a better story.

An avid fisherman and construction contractor talking the DNR into trying something different?

Imagine that if you can. I can't.

Excellent article. I am very appreciative of this man because he is the reason I have muskies in the waters I fish.

Excellent article!! It is especially cool knowing that there were likely thousands of people that read that article yesterday that aren't currently muskie fisherman who potentially have a greater appreciation for the resource.

Great story! A big thanks to these guys and thier vision. We should all be grateful. I don't always agree with MI but will always remain a member. Musky fishing would not be what it is today without MI.

Larry Ramsel that is a great post about the beginning of catch and release!
