hi everybody !! i need some information about the devcon epoxy . i have the chance to get some devcon 30 min epoxy for cheap . now i'm using etex for a long time and to me it did a really nice job for long . but now i would like to give a try to devcon but iwas wondering if it's harder to use and cause of the fact that it dry in 30 min . is it hard to manipulate and controle or it's the same thing just the drying time that change ?

so thanks again to all of you !

It's good for setting screw eyes, but if ou re oing to use it to top coat lures they better be small. I used 2Ton Devcon once to coat a lure and I'll never do it again. It was hard to use and the finish was brittle. I'll stick with Etex il I croak. Some guys love it, but they must know something that I don't.

You can extend the working time of Devcon 2 Ton by adding a few drops of Denatured Alcohol. It will thin the product out a bit making it easier to brush on. Devcon is more brittle and harder than E-Tex. Musky and Northern teeth will tend to chip devcon more than E-tex. I personally coat my baits with devcon because it sets up so much faster. Of course, just like E-tex, multiple coats are required to build up a thick finish to prevent teeth from penetrating the top coat and the wood underneath it. It is a matter of preference, but it seems like most muskie bait builders use E-tex because it is more flexible under the stress of musky teeth.

If you use Devcon 30 min you get about 7 or 8 minutes of working time. You need to put it on with some umph, because it is thick and will dry spot in some places. Just make sure you get the whole lure covered and then use a heat gun and it will flow real good. When i use it i usually point the heat gun to the mixed epoxy to warm it and take bubbles out also. Apply Devcon with a small paint brush or with a round thick brush from the kids section at Crafts 2000. The brushes have brown bristles and colored handles and are about the size of your pointing finger. It's good to use if you don't want or have a drying wheel. You can coat a lure and turn it with your hands for about 10 minutes after coating and hang it up. I usally put one good coat on and thats all. I don't worry but invite any and all teeth marks on my baits. You can call them battle scars and touch them up when needed.

Devcon used to work really well but several years back they changed it just enough to where it started setting up more quickly. It is really tough but will yellow after a number of years. Some lures I did 10 years ago with it now have a bit of yellow to them.
