I have an opportunity through a trade to get a new bow mount, only thing is it is a 24 volt model. I really didnt want to do that because of the added weight but with the trade i think I am getting a good deal. My question is can I also run a depthfinder off one of the batteries used for the trolling motor? Even if it is not ideal, can I still do it without causing damage to anything. My boat is not big enough for 3 batteries.

It will not cause damage, but may cause interference. You won't know until you try it. Are you sure you cannot fit a 3rd battery anywhere? What kind of boat is it? Maybe someone here has done it before.

I could fit it, I just dont want all the extra weight of a third battery. My boat is just an old bench seat starcraft that I ripped apart and put a casting deck in. Has a 20 horse evinrude. By myself it hauls but weight slows it way down. I have an old minn kota 565b on it right now and its just not enough power on windy days. A 24 volt motor will probably be overkill but the price is right. I currently run my depthfinder off the same battery as the bow mount with no problems but didnt know if the increased voltage would cause problems.

I dont need a starter battery (pull start), I was hoping to find a way to have the trolling motor run off two deep cycles in the front linked for 24v. Is there anyway you can also run a sonar unit off of one of those batteries while running the trolling motor? I have been doing research and got about half people saying it will work and half saying no way.

Tough to say without trying it, however, I have had bad experiences hooking my electronics to the TM batteries. I would be asking myself "why is this TM such a great deal?" Would it not be cheaper for an upgraded 55# 12 volt and a different battery for electronics? Lots of factors in this equation that would have to be weighed out.

Ya, the deal is the guy who owns this particular motor is willing to trade for hunting equipment I have.

I have been running my boat this way for 15 years with no problems I have a 24 volt 74 lb Minkota Genisis and (2) Garmin locators, the batteries are in series for the trolling motor and the locators are parallel to which batterie you want to use.

One thing that you could do is use one battery for the trolling motor and use the other for the electronics. Not many people realize that you can use a regular 12v for a 24v motor it justs lasts the same time as a regular 12v motor.

After just reading dstauff post his idea sounds even better.
