Posts: 87 | I am looking to get my first gps/sonar unit and this one caught my eye. Mostly because it seems to have some great features for a good price. so my question is does anybody have experience with this unit? How did/didn't you like it? Thanks for your help!

Posts: 393 Location: Hopefully on the water | They are new out this year with the Elite 7 series. Look like a good unit at a good price point for all three units they are offering. I think it is worth it but will be interested in reading some reviews later this year after they have been out and being used. I looked at one and seems pretty simple to use and good features IMO.

Posts: 397 | Basically there isnt much difference between this and a HDS 7, except that you cannot link the elite series

Posts: 393 Location: Hopefully on the water | You can link the Elite 7's together to share waypoint.

Posts: 574 | http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=82... There's some more info from a earlier thread.. Here's another youtube video that shows how to size windows, overlay the downscan over the regular sonar etc... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF7aNGzkaRA Pretty sure I'll have one of these soon...

But only for waypoints.. I believe you can even hook it up to the older LCX models with a certain cable.. bigred2198 - 3/22/2013 6:05 PM Basically there isnt much difference between this and a HDS 7, except that you cannot link the elite series Aside from the menus, buttons, screen shape, screen size, card slot size all being different.. And the Elite coming with downscan... Yeah.. Basically the same.. Edited by Jason Bomber 3/23/2013 3:34 PM

Posts: 574 | At 2.00 minutes they start talking about cords, and networking. Right about 2.10 the Lowrance rep says you can link this to another Elite or to an HDS, LMS, or LCX http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc6kseyUKjw Montei I wish I know the answer to your transducer ? But I don't.. Edited by Jason Bomber 3/24/2013 12:48 PM

Posts: 87 | no worries i was just wondering if its going to cause interference on either unit

Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | Montei, if the frequency is the same then yes but being that the Elite has dual frequencies then you'll be able to use both. For example my Eagle graphs are 200khz so they will interfere with my Elite when in 200; but when I switch it to 83 no interference. I like my Elite-5; very nice graph for the cash. So I'm going to pick up this new 7 sometime this season and move the 5 up front.

montei - 3/22/2013 3:10 PM I am looking to get my first gps/sonar unit and this one caught my eye. Mostly because it seems to have some great features for a good price. so my question is does anybody have experience with this unit? How did/didn't you like it? Thanks for your help! Those units are a great value and can provide the added feature of down imaging. Down imaging is very useful if you are interested in supplementing your 2d image with crisp clear target separation. Instead of a blob of fish on 2d sonar you will be able to count how many are in the school. Instead of a clump near the bottom you will be able to see if this is a tree an see the branch's or weeds and count the stalks. Make sure you understand how down imaging works and see if it applies to your fishing technique. Also understand NMEA2000 and its capabilities. Waypoints are transmitted upon entry from one unit to another. They are not shared per se. Lets say you have two units linked through NMEA2000 and one of them is off and you enter a bunch of waypoints on the one that is on. When you turn the second unit on it will not show these waypoints. You can transfer them by downloading them on a chip and then uploading them from the chip onto the second unit. I think it would make a great unit. Once you learn down scan, you'll never be without it. Just don't compare it to a HDS unit.

Posts: 87 | thanks for all the help guys. this will be my first gps/sonar. I've used a vexilar forever which is why i want to keep it rigged on my boat. its definitely the unit im going to buy when the time comes. i like how is a big screen priced at what would be a smaller screen on comparable units
