Posts: 68 | I need some help/suggestions on where to mount my transducer. The one I have on now only works when I'm going 5mph since it doesn't get clear water when going faster than that or on plane. As you can see in the pictures the previous owner had mounted a transducer on the bottom rib, near the drain hole (bottom white section). I'm thinking it didn't work well for them there since it was sort of inline with the prop and then they installed it where the transducer is now. I have a new Hummindird DI/SI unit and don't want to mount it where I have the current transducer. I'd like to be able to use this unit when going faster than 5mph. The place I'm thinking of putting it is where I marked the yellow circle. Not sure what to call it. Outer hull/sponson. This is a HydroStream Vassarette that has a YT Hull. It's different, but meant for stability at high speeds. I can go 50+mph in this boat. Let me know what you you think. I may have to just try a spot and test it out, but I'm hoping not to drill too many holes until I find a good place. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]()

Posts: 68 | Or I could try underneath, between the hull and sponson. Similar spot that's it in now but instead of mounting to the transom, relocate it under it on the step. I believe there is room. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]()

Posts: 67 | I have the same unit and have mounted a few of them. Go about 7 inches or so to the right of your plug on the white where it steps up. You want it protected from all the prop wash. Mount the bracket so the bottom of your transducer is about an inch up from the bottom of the white. You don't want it hanging below the boat. Mark your holes and put the bracket up there to take a look before drilling. Remember how much the transducer sits below the bracket.

Posts: 67 | Looking at your bout it may be like a foot to the right. Where it gets horizontal after the jog in the white

Posts: 68 | Thanks for the info. I'll measure it out tomorrow but I'm pretty sure I should be able to mount it 7" from the drain hole. The second horizontal line (2nd step) is at least a foot away. I'll give it a shot. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 67 | Yes. Go above that 2nd step a foot away. Right where it goes horizontal after the diagonal part of the step. The bottom of your transducer should be about a half inch to an inch up from that horizontal part. That should workout perfect for you.

Posts: 67 | Do not put it where the old holes are!

Posts: 68 | I won't. I'm going to fill in those with some hard setting epoxy and re-gel coat it. I really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Posts: 117 | Most of the bassboat guys who are into side imaging, and still want high speed sonar, use a Y-cable and two transducers--side imaging ducer is attached directly to a jackplate and is completely out of the water at higher speed (in your case without a jackplate you might mount on the transom up above the bottom of boat, but you MUST have unobstructed view to both sides so you may need to trim engine up a little depending on the angle of your transom and how much set back the lower unit has...so possibly as high as possible BELOW the step). The second ducer is for 2-d sonar only and is a thru-hull style epoxied to the hull in the bilge. They get sonar readings this way well above 60mph, and the $$$ side imaging ducer is protected from any impact. If I'm not mistaken that's a humminbird transducer--if so you can send the pictures to himminbird customer service and they'll help you get just what you need--they're good and very helpful. Posts: 1462 Location: Davenport, IA | I would also suggest shoot through hull and putting the SI transducer about where your current one is. With shoot through hull you are guaranteed (with a proper installation) to get a reading at WOT.

Posts: 67 | Definitely use a second transducer with a y cable for readings at higher speeds.

Posts: 5874 | muskyadamovich - 3/24/2013 8:15 PM Definitely use a second transducer with a y cable for readings at higher speeds. Hi speed transducer should go on the white, above that 2nd step a foot away. Right where it goes horizontal after the diagonal part of the step. I always use a straight edge, and mount the lower face between 1/4 and 1/2 in below the bottom edge. Use the Y cable, and put the SI transducer right or left of the middle on the red, so it reads slow speed when the boat is not on the pad. Make sure when the motor is fully down, it does not hit the transducer.
