Posts: 373 Location: Maine Township, MN | I have 2 HDS units that have small white speckles all over them. I'm thinking that it's actually dead bug residue. I'm looking for advice for what to safely use to clean them without worry of either smoking the screens or wiping off the lettering on the units. What's worked for you to get stubborn crap off? Soap and water isn't really working.

Posts: 280 Location: McFarland | Are you sure it's not from bug spray? I got some freckles on my lowrance from bug spray but I don't think the vinegar will work for them. They seem to be "bleached" in.

Posts: 373 Location: Maine Township, MN | Thanks guys! I'll give the vinegar solution a whirl. I don't think it's from bug spray. I try to keep that away in the 1st place. If I use my fingernail I can kind of rub some of the spots off.

Posts: 271 Location: Oregon, WI | +1 on the windex multisurface w/vinegar. Yes sun screen spray and insect repellant will destroy the anti-glare properties of your display. Make sure your graphs are up wind when spraying that stuff on. Also, don't touch the screen if you have it on your fingers. Had the wind blow the over spray onto one of my graphs and was unable to get rid of the spots to the point that I sent it in to get the display glass replaced, because it was hard to see small details on the display. Do not use spray in your boat. Bad, bad, bad. Them make bug wipes that work very good. I don't think you can get it off. Also, do not use anything but a 50/50 mix of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol on any HDS touch screen. You can use water and a soft cloth too. Anything else will remove the antiglare finish and stain the outside bezel. This is new and per Lowrance. Edited by 4amuskie 3/22/2013 5:46 PM
