Going down to Cave Run with three buddies next weekend and I'm looking for recommendations for lures. We are going guided with Tony Grant and staying at the Mountain Muskie Lodge and I know he will have baits for use and purchase and that the big rattle baits are often the go to, but if there are other ideas I'd sure like to hear them.

Spring Dawgs maybe?

Baby Girls?

Thanks everyone!

Rattle baits, hellhounds, phantoms, squirkos, sledges for casting. If the fish want larger baits throw reg dawgs mini medussas, etc. Water is going to be low to mid 40's and may get to 47-48 if its a warm day. Personally I don't throw blades till the water hits 60. For short line trolling he will be using tuff shads, ss shads, gt bullets, rattle baits, baby depth raiders, etc.

Tony will hook you up with whatever you need...save your cash until you get there. Big twitch baits can be good around fallen timber. X2on the Sledge recommendation! Have a blast...

I'm heading down to fish with Tony on Monday and Tuesday. I'll be home on Wednesday with a report if you need any last minute updates.

X3! Don't bother in choosing baits if you are with Tony. He knows what you need. Great guy to fish with. Just have fun

always, always, travel with your "goTo" baits
never leave home without them
lately for me its a small bucktail that can be burned all day
everyone had big blades but you need something that speed triggers and never get tired of throwing
watch doug johnson in the musky masters videos from in fisherman,
emulate him without the reel palming and you are gold!

They are made by Muskie Train for Gregg Thomas. I believe you can get them on his website.

Thanks for the report CRL.

I guess we will see what the weekend brings for us!

Bowhunter29, if you have time after your trip, I'm interested to hear how things went for you and what baits you throw.

And, thanks to everyone else for the replies.

The water temps were in the mid to upper 40's on Monday and the fish were active. We had action on the rattlebaits but the big fish of the trip moved on one of my white gliders. That's pretty much all we threw.

If the sun's out, you'll catch fish. If not, it's gonna be tough!

I talked to Gregg Thomas last week to schedule a trip in early May. He suggested also saving money and using what they have. I also like to fish my own lures, but am going to save some money and use theirs since I will be going alone. If I like what they have I can always buy some while I am there. I will bring some of my lures too, but will ask what the guides think will work according to the current bite. I have a new custom phantom and lucky craft bullfish that I am itching to fish.

Gregg is a great guy ....but prefers clients not bring their own lures.
