Subject: St. Croix Avid 7'6" HEAVY ????

I like rods with a fast action that really load up at the rod tip for good twitchin' and casting heavier artillery. I've enjoyed my St. Croix Premier 7'6" MH and it is slowly becoming my "go to" rod. However, when I heard about the new Heavy Action Avid, it really got my interest.

Does anyone have one of these yet? I'm looking for a comparison to help me decide if I should get the Medium Heavy or Heavy action AVID. Will anyone have both of these rods at the shows this winter for me to "test"? Believe it or not, I'm actually afraid this rod will be too stiff. Is that possible with a rod of this length?

A new Avid will definitely be added to my tool box this winter. Any input to help me choose the correct one (in the 7'6" lenth) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

AM76HF - The rod is out now folks!
Todd it actually handles up to 6oz. It is noticably a heavier power than the AM76MHF.

Rob,
Can you offer any more info about this new rod? Comparisons to others or something for us to go on? With it being new, it is tough to know where exactly this rod fits in... and it is a good chunk of change to just take a chance on.

I'd really like to hold one in my hands before buying. Any ideas where one may be on display this winter (shows, shops, etc.)? Thanks.

The rod is in our 2003 catalog and has been available for a few weeks now. Your local dealers should have them or can certainly get them in. They'll definitely be at the shows or give Rich Belanger a kick in the shins for not bringing one to show![;)]
I gave it a good feel and it has every bit of power that the AM69HF has but the nice thing is it's bit of flex in the tip section, so you can cast a heavier bait a lot easier![:)]

Me thinks some of the Rod MFG's should bring some rods down to the Poolside Demo. Heck, why not the Reel MFG's also? The different rods can be tried with diffrerent baits. A real hands-on comparison.

Also, instead of donating 5 ea. to C&R and MF, they donate 1 ea?

I know Rich was contacted about the demo, but I have no idea if it's a go or not.

My wife bought me this rod for my birthday. It's an awesome and I can't wait to cast it!

No work tomorrow, maybe I'll give it a cast in the back yard.

I have 2 of the Avid 7'6"MH's on the way. I really don't have a use for a rod that is that heavy. Same reason I got rid of my 6'9" Premiere. I like some give in the tip.
