I have been doing some research of some Canadian Lakes in Ontario and I ran across their licensing fees this morning. I noticed that they sell two different licenses depending on how many fish people intend to keep on a regular basis. One license is the Sportman's and the other a Conservation. The cost difference is $ 25 vs. $17. This seems to be a good idea to implement here in Minnesota to try and raise more cash for our DNR in Minnesota. Serious anglers who are on the water keeping fish all the time would be forced to purchase the more expensive license and in turn would not have their limits reduced. But people who are fishing on occasion and its more recreation could purchase the Conservation License and wouldn't have the same limit sizes as the Sportsman's license. Does this idea make sense to anyone else or am I grasping at straws?

Here is the website to check out what I have found.

We already have that. Conservation license has half the limit.

Whoops. Where have I been. Thank you for the update on this. The problem is that this conservation license was created after the original license and everyone expects to pay around $20 for a license. With only a $7 difference everyone would purchase the regular license. Could we increase the regular license to $30 hoping that more revenue would be flowing in without having anglers purchase the cheaper license and then ignore the regulations?

License increases don't really go over very well. I personally dont like a conservation license anyway. Less money for the state to maintain lakes and everything else that they have to pay for. Of course, im a little biased as I work for the DNR.

The license is, by far, the least expensive thing to do with fishing. Raise them all, I say.
