Does anyone know the brand of reflective tape they use on the Windowmaker's blades? It is super reflective in low light and I would like to try adding some to my home made lures.

This is just a hunch... and I could be wrong, I too am curious what it is. But I doubt that we are going to find out. If I, you, and every one else can use the same tape on our own stuff. What is the point of buying there stuff?

If they were my bucktails and my company, I wouldn't tell anyone except the people involved with the company. Idk, just a thought

This is not exactly a proprietary tool. They are a small musky bait company... they are sourcing the product from a manufacturer...most likely 3M.

I have a ton of tapes including many that look exactly like what they are using that I use to enhance baits or in the boat for other reasons and they all come from 3M. I have an "in" @ 3m so I get a ton of stuff directly from them at employee pricing which is still no bargain. I am sure if you go to their consumer web site you will find it; you will have to order 10-12 sheets of it or agood sized roll (pretty standard “minimum case pack order quantity) and it is not cheap. It’s around $80.00-$100.00 for 10-12 sheets or a similar price per roll as I recall.

Rollie and Helen's has small sheets that are very similar, but not the same. Just a few bucks for a 3-pack.

Wasn't Musky Mayhem coming out with pre-cut tape kits? Haven't seen anything on any of the online shops or their website though...

Yes, they had them at the MN expo. They are kinda cool but are not nearly as reflective as the Windowmaker tape.

Check out the video...

These tapes are available through vendors other than 3M also. The minimum quantity I've seen is 1 or 2" x 15 ft. roll. Still, fairly expensive and more than the average guy would want.

3M makes the tape you want and they come in different grades. Type 11 Micro encapsilated prismatic sheeting reflects the most millacandelas in retro-reflectivity as far as I know and is the highest grade.
This sheeting is used on the roadway signs that you see that really light up with allot of intensity. You can check with your Public Works dept, State agencies or road contractors to see if they have scraps or pieces they can let go depending on how much you want.
Engineer grade is the lowest quality and I don't think that would work well for fishing. High Intensity or Micro-encapsilated prismatic sheeting is what you want.

Last year I put the Red and White from a Stop sign in type 11 sheeting on the back of a home made double 10 and caught my biggest fish of the year. I was pumped!
Hope this helps.

I know what it is, and i have lots of it! I have been putting it on my own for years. Wish I would have been the first to show the rest of the musky world.

Any issues with the adhesive of the 3M material and the paint on wooden crankbaits or topwaters (plastic too for that matter) or does that not work well? I've seen holographic tape fall off a boat partner's crankbait in the past.

I had cut some small triangle pieces of the type 11 to put on the body of a Black Globe. The pieces were approx 1/4 inch to maybe a 1/2 inch long in little triangles. What I found out was this sheeting is very ridged and stiff and did not bend well around the circumference of the bait. The center of the triangle would stick but the outer edges were raised off the Globe and be suspect to falling off.

Sheetings of lower grades of retroreflectivity from what I know should be able to make them bends as they are thinner and more pliable. High Intensity sheeting should work for wrapping baits, or sheeting made for fishing lures. As far as, if the adhesive will take the paint off your bait if pulled off? I don't know, I havn't played with that.

Have you seen the holographic cards of a animal running and you jiggle the card and the animal runs? Type 11 sheeting is almost that thick to give you an idea on how it will bend but it works great for blades and I am going to put some on the lip of a Shallow Invader. The Invader should swim shallow enough for the light to do it's thing.

As far as type 11 I have put on blades, it isn't going anywhere for years. It sticks solid and it is made for the Sun, rain, snow, sleet and hail and have thrown that bait for over a year and it's still looks like day one.

I have had a few messages for a link to find type 11 sheeting so I will just post them here. If type 11 isn't what you want then maybe from the links you can navigate to a sheeting that best fits your needs.

Hope this helps.

Looks similar. With Prismatic sheeting you can see Orange, Greens, and other colors like in a rainbow when looked at certain angles in the Sun.
That's because of the prisoms in the sheeting. When I zoomed on the picture of the tape i could almost see that.
I would use it.
