Posts: 15 Location: Grayling, Michigan | Looking to replace an older trolling motor on our boat. 16' tiller with front and rear decks. Old motor was 42lb thrust bow mount foot control. Looking at getting something similar but would like to hear thoughts on motors where I can run the foot control from the back deck. Do they have to be wireless or would one with an 18' cable extension work? Any advice on folks that run these would be great. Thanks, Tim

Posts: 267 | Yes, you can certainly run a cable to the back but it can be a pain especially with multiple people, gear, animals, etc., in the boat. Once you go wireless, you will never go back. And once you go key fob wireless, you will never go back to foot pad only wireless. It's definitely worth the extra few bucks.

Posts: 397 | Go with a powerdrive they come with an 18' corded pedal, and are great battery life. i believe you can get a wireless pedal as well. a 55lb powerdrive goes for $500 give or take

Location: sneaking out to get on the water ;-) | i've got the terrova with ipilot on my 14'er and will never go back. The pedal will reach the back of a 16'er or you can use the remote wich is what I use the majority of the time. The electronic anxhor is awesome along with the other great features.

Posts: 1462 Location: Davenport, IA | I would suggest fishing with people that have different types. I absolutely hated the co-pilot remote. I used a powerdrive for 8 years and will never buy another. Why do you want to control the motor from the back?

Posts: 109 Location: Wisconsin River | Minnkota PD or Terrova with some sort of pilot option. Even the old Auto Pilot system takes alot of work out of boat control. The new I-pilot systems are incredible.

Posts: 206 | I've got to agree with wicked above...last year I went to the dark side and put an iPilot on my 16 foot aluminum tiller. If you troll at all, it is unbelievable. There is no way I could ever go back. Following one direction with auto pilot is great and spot lock is worth the extra cost itself. If you're on a budget and can't afford it then no. But I probably use the gas motor less than 20% of the time and the iPilot the other 80% and its a must for me.

Posts: 15 Location: Grayling, Michigan | Thanks for all the replys. The Terrova with Ipilot looks sweet and in a perfect world would probably be what I went with but $1200+ is a bit spendy right now. May have to hold off and save a bit more. My main priority is to upgrade form the old one I had in power and ease of use as well as getting some control from the back (gives me the flexibility to give others the front seat). Question about the setup with the terrova; is the universal sonar optional or can it just not be hooked up until the proper sonar is installed? Mine would not be compatible with it. Thanks, Tim

Posts: 206 | ...another option might be to look for a used iPilot. With the new iPilot "Link" coming out that integrates the trolling motor, Humminbird gps and Lakemaster chip - there will be just some plain old used iPilots on the market.

Location: sneaking out to get on the water ;-) | you can get the terrova with or without the us2 mine has it because that's what was in stock. I don't have new enough electronics to hook to it so I electrical taped off the end and am waiting till I get newer electronics. It's out of the way and doesn't cause any issues.

Posts: 909 | Once you get a remote control trolling motor, you'll never know why it took so long to buy one! Love mine!
