I know that golf club manufacturers have their products duplicated by overseas companies and sold online. Do reel manufacturers have the same problem? Should I be concerned purchasing a new reel online? Thanks in advance!

I would think that if you are buying from a well known source I wouldnt be worried. If you are getting it from a shady looking or never heard about place than I am sure its possible, although i have never heard of it happening.

I agree with above post. If you buy from a reputable dealer you will not have a problem. I have purchased numerous reels from online sources ,tackle shops and other
Internet sites. And have not had an issue.

I recently, last month, bought a new reel from a internet company that I had never done business with before. I did some searches to see what I could find out about them. Then, I made sure they had a phone number I could contact them if there was any problem. Before ordering I called to make sure the phone number was working and someone was available to take my call.
I've seen some internet companies that do NOT have phone numbers listed for contacts. I avoid those companies.
So far, I haven't had any problems with the companies I've dealt with. Of course, most are well known to other muskie fishermen using this site.
If you are not sure of who you are dealing with, you may want to ask others if they have done business with the company you are considering.
good luck

I've purchased a Saltist from the buy/sell forum on this site, a Toro 60 HS, a Curado 300 DSV and just recently, a Revo SX (the 2013 version) all online and have no complaints. Like guys mentioned above, make sure you are dealing with someone reputable. I can't remember who I purchased the Saltist from, but I remember seeing him on here quite a bit and he seemed to be a standup guy to me. The reel was in great shape and it came at a great price. The other reels were purchased on a big auction site from sellers who had very high numbers of sales and outstanding feedback.

My best advice is to avoid anyone that is obscure and isn't well-known.
