Posts: 546 Location: MN | Head up to the St. Louis for 1st time this summer. Looking for some general tips. I've never fished it before and have no clue where to start. Looking at going more than once, in Mid-June and Mid-July. If someone could be so kind as to point me in a general direction I would greatly appreciate it. I don't need anyone’s secret spot, just a focus in this general area/structure. Feel free to PM me as well.

Posts: 50 Location: Duluth | Coast guard is not placing all the bouy markers this year because they can not guarantee safe travel in much of the river after the flood last year. Be careful! might need it off plane way before the 23 bridge this year.

Posts: 546 Location: MN | Is there a good map that you guys suggest? Something to give me an idea of the layout and navigation routes. Where could I pick one up?

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | If you have anything close to a nice boat I would be very cautious/would not go out there first without having a guide or someone else take you out, particularly upstream of Spirit as mentioned. And that was before the storm.... Edited by Musky Brian 3/1/2013 12:32 PM

Posts: 256 | I love the St. Louis River but she was TOUGH last year after the flood. The river really changed in spots and the weeds never really came in. I would highly recommend getting a guide your first time out. We've fished with Capt. Chris Edquist a few times and had a blast (and more importantly caught a few fish!). www.questfishing.com

Posts: 897 | I probably wouldn't rely on any map being accurate from spirit lake up to the dams, that flood changed the river a lot and they haven't gone out and remapped anything. Lots of new sand, gravel and rock bars out there.
