Subject: World Championship Musky Lure Building Contest

We have a contest for all Muskies Lures builders to enter into. Its a great way to bring your lures forward in the marketing of your product, or show off your craftsmenship, experience, and paintings of art piece. Its a contest to raise money to bring our children, grand children into Muskies Fishing through our auctions. All proceeds goes to NPAA earmarked to educate our kids in Muskie Fishing. More information is on this website http://www.muskieexpo.com/pages/new-world-championship-handcrafted-...

I think the idea of having to pay to enter a lure that you are going to auction off may be turning some possible entrants off.  Or at least that’s what the consensus of a few fellow baitmakers that I’ve talked to is.  Last year you made $1300 on 20 or so lures.  Your money is obviously in the auction.  It’s not that 10 bucks is going to kill us, it’s just we’re a pretentious finicky bunch with tricky egos – lol

Just some food for thought.

That being said, I’m trying to get one done for it, can I enter one Friday at the show?

Also, your form says “A panel of professional judges with a percentage of their vote combined with the patron vote will decide the winner”.  Who are these professional judges and what are their qualifications?  What is their “vote percentage”?  Thanks

That $1300 was donated and they also are giving money and plaque to winners of each division. Consider it to be like a not for profit tournament. Paid entry to possibly win cash/prizes with money also going to a good cause.

I read the rules on PDF and they didn't mention anything about entrants having to be present or not. Leaving me unsure. Its a simple question really, but I'm not going to enter a bait if I'm unsure...Oh well.

Oh yes, it is understood the proceeds go to a very good cause.  I was just sharing some sentiment that I’ve come across that the promoters of the contest may consider in their efforts to grow and improve it.

I didn't even think about it from  this angle.

It would be nice to hear official point of view on this subject.

Thanks for the comments!
You do not have to be present, but the deadline to submit your lure(s) is January 31. If the person entering a lure wins and is not present, I will mail the plaque and money.
We are currently working on a panel of judges and they will have a vast knowledge of lures, and will be non-biased.
Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Thanks John.  Well I won’t be able to get one done in time then.  I’m exhibiting at the show and I can volunteer to be a judge if needed, I’ve been around the lure building block a few times.

John,
Will each lure be tested several times in the tank during the show? I will be entering a lure and was wondering if each lure maker will know what their lure sells for on the silent auction? I have never been to the expo but I going to try and make it this year.
Thanks
Scott

We plan on testeing the lures, however I'm not sure if they will be tested more than once, it will depend on how many are entered and what the schedule is for the tank.

I plan on attending the show on Sat and possibly on Sun. Hope I can see my lure in action in the tank! When will the contest end? The rules say noon on Sun, but the website says 3 on on Sun?

I'm not going to enter because I want to keep the lures that I would enter. I'd gladly offer a different new lure in place of the ones entered, but the ones that I would pick to show are special to me and I want to keep them. Call me greedy, but that's the way it is. I gladly donate lures all over the muskie range for clubs and outings, but I'm not going to doanate one-of-a-kind lures that will stay in my family after I'm gone. Sorry, but a few come out with something special behind them or on top of them and I'm not going to pay to give them away.

The entries are rolling in and they are all phenomenal entries!!! If you are still on the fence about entering a lure or not, I am going to extend the entry deadline to Feb. 8th. Looking forward to seeing your creations. Thank you for supporting musky fishing education for young fisher people.

Will entries be made to abide by the rules this year, or will it be a repeat of last year where it was stated ALL lures could not be displayed on stands, not much information telling about the lure etc.

Then you allowed Nimmers folk art bait to sit on a lighted, mirrored and motorized turntable! other baits as well were displayed on the table front and center, while most entries who followed the rules were pinned to the wall as ALL lure were supposed to have been.

As Beaver said its tough enough to pay to give away/"donate" those 1 of a kind special lures to begin with, knowing the playing field may not be level makes its a pretty east decision not to enter.

Only a week and a half left until the Milwaukee Musky Expo and the second annual Musky Lure World Championship. The entries are phenomenal and are from 7 different states and 4 foreign countries. Stop by and check it out.

Any idea when the contest lures are going to be tested? I'm only going to be at the show on Saturday and would like to see them in action.

I agree with Castmaster!  Turntables, mirrors, and pieces that were clearly folk art and not functional was a complete joke.  Displaying was unfair to those that were discriminated against.
