OK. Enough of the 5, 10 or twenty top lure lists already - do a search, there are a lots of threads on the topic.

This is the survivor muskie challenge:

You get to pick only one! No back up's, no second choices. You have to put on your A game, a WR class muskie is at stake & you know she's likely on the spot. Sunset-moonset major. Cloudy, with fast moving cold front about 60 minutes away moving at 30mph. Wind calm, but its suppose to get real nasty. So you have limited time and have to leave at first sound of thunder to make it to safety.....

Trout water - visibility + 20'.

Ok...I'll play:

Trout water - visibility + 20'.
Lure? Straight Depthraider
Color? Cisco/White
Presentation? Trolling open water
Why? Get the lure away from the boat and in the strike zone for the longest period possible.

Light tea stained water: Visibility 10'.
Lure? same as above
Color? perch
Presentation? Same as above
Why? Same as above

Dark tea stained water - visibility 4'.
Lure? Eagle Tail
Color? Red/ Chartruse blade
Presentation? Fast over deep weed edge nearest to main basin.
Why? Cover as much water as possible with the belief that large fish are moving up on structure from deep water to feed.

Clay stained water - visibility less than 1'.
Lure? Krusher
Color? Firetiger
Presentation? Speed trolled on a short line across main lake points.
Why? Because it's one of the only things that has worked for me in these conditions!

River - visibility 3-4 feet.
Lure? Whopper Plopper
Color? Black
Presentation? medium retrieve around seams and current breaks connected to deep water.
Why? Large fish should be moving out from deep holes to ambush points to feed.

Magnum Bulldawg in Black for every situation you described. If there is a world class Muskie in the area, I want to use the bait I have the most confidence in, which is the Magnum Bulldawg.

Dark tea stained water - visibility 4'.
Lure? --Magnum Violent Strike 8/10 spinnerbait
Color?--Chartreuse with an orange accent and white trailer hook grub
Presentation?--- Spot casting and moving the lure medium speed to keep it JUST above the nasty stuff but allow it to bust through the cabbage on top, slow it slightly in the pockets. I know where the pockets are and am targeting those I have seen the big girls close to. Generally speaking, I'm in the slop 50 yards from the 5' weedline hitting the slots between the first break at 1.5 to 3' targeting the areas where red cabbage and cabbage are best.
Why? -- Weeds will only grow in 5' or less because of low light penetration. Light penetration is low even in the shallow stuff because of sky conditions. Barometer is falling like a rock, and experience tells me to look in the very skinny water for the largest fish in the system because that's where the food is due to lack of cover elsewhere and the front coming in has the fish going. Cabbage because that cover is perfect for panfish like Perch to live in, feed in, and have room to do both while giving them the cover to survive predators, and is open enough to allow that big girl to find and eat my lure. Color was selected to contrast with all available backgrounds with cloudy skies and dark water. In this example, there's no current mentioned or that would change the game a bit. Spinnerbait because it makes a ton of noise, has a great side view profile, and can be rigged weedless and run through the worst stuff in the skinny water.

Ill take the river.
Mag Dawg- walleye orange tail or Rollies custom white belly perch.
Retrieved at a medium pace with big hard rips.
Why- 1) Im a river rat and I know that the fish are less effected by weather so I have a little more time to work her.
2) Huge hawgs love dawgs.
3) I popped a dandy in this same situation last October!!
