Location: Finland | can i give some constructive criticism. I think your method of laying down the bait and moving the stencil along the bait sure is fast but maybe the way you spray could be more accurate, i could see some rows that had more paint than others, when you have no color differences in all of the rows the overall look is much more believable looking when your imitating fish scales.
its just a matter of tricker control and spraying from the same angle every time and having the exact same mix ratio in the paint that your spraying , takes some time to get the hang of it but all you need is practice. keep it up mate

Location: Money, PA | IMHO, the secrets of the art of painting lures, especially natural looking ones, is in the layering of color and having the ability to effectively layer just enough so that the underneath colors show through with intensities that you desire. A few other keys would also be the poper order of layering, knowing, understanding and matching hues and how to make certain hues without just simply pouring out of a bottle.
Therefore, I agree with the above comments....I also feel some of the nice underlying colors are being washed out by overlay which in turn you sacrifice some detail. Overall though, really nice work.

| Great video, yes, but that kind of painting would drive me crazy. I've been using acrylic lacquers since I started painting because I can't stand using water-base paints. Granted, water base paints have really come a long way in the last 10 years, but with the paints that I use, I don't need a hair dryer and I don't need multiple coats to get coverage. I can paint any color over any color and get coverage in one light coat. I can also put down pearl bases, and then mist a metallic color over any of them and create colors right on the lure. I have test patterns that I shot on white cardboard, and I put down one pearl and then cover it very lightly with 10 other colors and I have a whole new pallette to choose from and they all dry in less than 30 seconds. It was cool watching this video and others to get an idea of how other people paint, and no two are alike. I'm going to have to set up a camera and paint a lure some day and put it on you tube just to see what other people have to say. I like the finished product in this one, but it seems like it took a whole lot more steps to get to the end compared with what I'm used to doing. |
