Why fluorocarbon? Use braid.

Most likely it is. Really depends on what you plan to throw for lures. If your lures are the kind that you throw out and reel back in, then yes braid is what you'll want to have.

Well i plan on using braid. im just gonna use the fluoro as a leader. Because pike bite through braid pretty easily.

You want braid as your main line and then a leader of some type. Fluorocarbon works well as does wire. I stick with 130lb or 150lb fluorocarbon for muskies and generally use seven-strand leaders when targeting pike. Seven-strand leaders are generally cheaper, but they normally last longer since they don't get nicked as easily as fluorocarbon. Since its likely you'll catch double digits of pike in a day if you're in a good area the seven-strand would be best. You just have to pay attention to it getting kinked or twisted.

From my experience most of the fish were mid-20s to low-30s, so it wasn't worth an expensive fluorocarbon leader. I use the Bass Pro Offshore Angler in 45lb. A little on the cheap side as far as components go, but the fish were small so I never had an issue.

No mention of leader and I thought you were talking main line.

Use a http://www.leadersandlures.com/ light wire leader (either 40 or 80#) as they have quality snaps and swivels plus the wire will take the abuse of many pike and never fail or kink. Keep an eye on the snap (mostly) and swivel as they will fail long before the wire.
