No, I'm not trying to start a war with Mr. Wilson.
However, I do have a 8" Enchanter that I can't seem work. I made a few casts with it and I couldn't get it to do anything but float and pull straight ahead.

It's a "collector" limited series lure. Only 8 were made in this color and I paid a hefty price for it, and I think Jim will tune it up if I give him a call.

Anyone know where I can get a hold of him??

Tom:

Next time you see me on your favorite lake, stop me and I'll show you how to work it. I hated mine until I figured out how to work it. Now I like it better then my collection of shakers. It probably works but you have to work it differently then a shaker so you may not have figured it out yet.

Anyhow, can you describe how to work this thing??
Anyone else want to clue me in?? What is the action supposed to be like??

The enchanter that I have goes up and down like a suick, or any other chop bait with a side to side swing as it's popped along. What is nice about this chop style bait is the belly flash or roll as you work it along. I usually slack line snap it back with the rod tip straight below me. Don't expect it to swing out on the retrieve like a Hughey or Shaker, but with a subtle side to side as it move forward.

catch ya later,
Krappie

Steve....sorry spaced that one a little...lol

I agree with Krappie. It is not designed to be a shaker like movement. I got a 3 fish day out of one when the shaker wasn't producing. You can take a very slow subtle slack line pull to it and it will be a little like a Undertaker with the added belly roll. If you jerk it a little harder it will be a little less predictable with more of a up and down motion (like a more subtle upward jive of a magic maker) with a huge belly roll. In fact if you pull it like this it will nearly roll 180 degrees.

Hey thanks guys, I got one a few weeks back but only made a few casts with it before I decided I didn't like it. The water was a little too stained to try to learn this new bait. I should have known better. Like all of my other jerkbaits, a minute to learn, a lifetime to master. Good tips.

I was going to send mine back too. I was expecting a Shaker-like action, and when I didn't get it, I was PO'd.
I sent an e-mail to Jim and he called me. He said exactly what you guys just said. It's designed to fish like a Suick except it won't rise all of the way to the surface. Pulls with twitches thrown in worked best for me......in the water department basins anyway[;)]
Thanks for the tips.
